that's a weird comparison. Drane 2 is really moving. Known(1) is an enjoyable pisstake.

Drane2 orchestral, and in the Known (1) is a sound like a harpsichord or flute, the sound is sufficiently close

I don't get this, do you guys who hate this track just abhor music that has inherent melodic quality? Everything about this track is beautiful. The synth layers that become syncopated with one another, the squelchy synth line, everything. Sure there's not alot of atmosphere and space here, but just wonderfully euphoric melodies that flow all around you. I've been listening to IDM and electronic music for long enough to understand when something is just not someone's cup of tea but.... fuuck man this is just a GOOD melody. How could you not enjoy it?

Not at all. There's no beats in this track, but the guitar-sounding synth forms the beat. It's basically a little guitar doodle, almost sounds like Autechre doing a Western Coyboy-esque track. Except for the squelchy synth. Although, just like all Ae it sorta defies explanation.

It almost sounds a little bit like Dayvan Coyboy, but far less gay.

Sound is OK but melody is just awful. Problem is that it's not funny but it's like some stupid attempt by a very stupid person to create something deep. If it's just an another average track that OK... but what bothers me schlager muzik outcome and I can't see it's a parody.

Comparation with schlager muzik was just a magnification of the problem that i have with known1 so you could easier see what i'm talking about.

Someone has mentioned resemblance to a baroque music... Take a look what Murcof have done:

Of course not. Chances are that those of us who dislike this track probably love melodic music just as much as...erm...non melodic music. I know I do. I've even got quite a high tolerance for cheese and 80s synth pop and old videogame music, let alone more 'refined' electronic melodic excursions.

It's just that I find the sounds used on known(1) incredibly irritating, and the melodies themselves are neither usual enough to appeal to me in the way lots of atonal classical music does, nor refined or beautiful enough to capture me like more obvious or traditional melodies might. Nor are they free flowing and meandering (which I sometimes find quite attractive in music, if it's done right.) They feel like an attempt at something deliberate and structured, and are backed by some very obvious harmonic progressions, but are just that bit too clumsy, so they end up totally failing. imho. They're obvious and clumsy sounding. If they had been even clumsier, they might have been deranged enough to work for me on a wtf level, but they're not quite on that end of things, either. A horrible half-way house which reminds me of some of the half baked sounding trash Tangerine Dream started putting out in the 90s (minus the interesting screwed up lead sound known(1) has.)

The rest of Oversteps is quite brilliant, luckily. This one really spoils the flow for me. But the rest is good.

How can any of you be sure that this track really is "Known (1)"? Personally, I don't trust unofficial leaks, and judging a genuine, unheard track by something you downloaded from ShitLeak™ or LiveBile™ is surely an idiotic thing to do.

Just wait until you're sure you've actually HEARD it, then give it an extreme title like "worst Ae track ever" or whatever the fuck.

Norman records received a promo copy and put samples up. The one-file m4a is exactly the same, although the sound quality is noticeably different in the samples, suggesting they came from separate sources, which makes sense as Norman theoretically ripped fresh from the promo cd.

The only way this is a fake is if Sean and Rob created a fake promo. Which could happen, but would be an absolutely horrible business decision. I'm assuming they're at least somewhat concerned about maintaining the goodwill of both fans and the people who sell/review their music.

whatever then we would have 2 ae albums for the price of one.

The first link was a bit long so i skipped through a bunch of it but watched short segments each time. I don't really get what's funny about that, he's just playin some weird shit. The second link is terrible yeah but its because of the phaser, there's nothing corny or horribly overdone like that in known(1) as far as I can tell.

I wouldn't mind two or seven new albums either.

Re: goodwill, I'm talking more about the disc that went out for reviews, the opinions contained in which will probably still be relied upon by a bunch of jackasses when they decide to buy/not buy the ultimate product.

after ilanders fades and the opening synth melody comes in for known(1), it always brings a smile to my face
