Really, the only part of the album I dislike is the intro to Maphive6.1.

that timpani sound makes me wanna :trashbear::facepalm:

I think because it's so varied it's one of those albums where everyone will have different favourites.

 varied? All the sounds sound like they came from the same source. Especially comparing EP7 to, like you already said, almost anything else Autechre has done. In terms of mood/tone all the songs are similar as well.

I agree. I gave it another shot though and realized it's okay, just the introduction is boring.

I'm surprised maphive6.1 is so readily accepted, actually. I do love it, but it's weird people are fine with that bizarre pitch-bending General Midi piano stuff! When I was first heard it I was like "wtf". It's great.

i don't really pay attention to the sound design of that track, though i do appreciate the use of more 'acoustic' sounds. it's all about the composition/structure for me.

I'm pretty cut about the Squeller hate, just thought I'd pitch in that Squeller is one of the all time best Ae tracks...

Zeiss Contarex is also a massive favorite, along with Outpt, Dropp & Ccec...

Squeller, Left Blank probably my favorites off 7.1. I loved how in squeller I would try to point out the chords in the beginning of the track but most people can't hear 'em till the more obvious pads come in at the end

i still want a netlon sentinel strawberry tub.hahahahah i am still laughing about that. i always imagined this song personified as a sentinel-from-the-matrix type of entity thrashing your brain. now all i will think about is how that song is like a strawberry tub.

There used to be more info about Netlon Sentinel products (they were all gardening-related), but it looks like maybe that part of the business wound up? I see there's a Netlon Turf Systems now, and a few other Netlon divisions.

I don't know why I actually looked for all of that, but the implication that Sean or Rob or both might possibly be into some hardcore gardening makes me feel warm and happy inside. But they probably just chose it because of the tension between how ridiculously awesome the name sounds and how mundane the namesake is.

Guest CyberAly

Just thought i'd say that Outpt is one of my favourite AE tracks ever. Sounds like a giant combine harvester or huge looming machine that eats up the earth in front of it, OH AND IT'S CHASING YOU. Dope.

When I first started listening to this album a few years back the one that instantly clicked with me was Netlon Sentinel but the rest soon started to grow. Squeller is another favourite of mine. Has what sounds like a steel drum in it, which makes it sound like a beach party when a tsunami hits.

EDIT: Also despite it's aggressiveness, Outpt has a really nice warming sound to it, especially towards the end.

Ok now that Ive had some quality re-time with EP7 I have to say that this is my favorite Ae release. Definitely not because of its production quality, but just in overall playfulness and inventiveness.

It sounds like Draft 730 hyper little brother. Its not repetitive like earlier releases and not as cold and industrial as later ones. It has a nice innocent musicality and groove, and sounds like Sean and Rob pushed out this baby during a busy weekend with lots of drugs. I would say that this is as typical Autechre as you get. The slow melodic lines that sounds like a robot moaning, harmonic glitch percussion, dynamic arrangement, HEAVY grooves, funny time signatures, kickdrum massacres etc. its all there beautifully put together. I know when I listen to EP7 that nobody else but Autechre could do something like this. Its like listening to their DNA.

I love Maphive6.1 so much, but it was one of the first Autechre tracks I ever heard, so I think that helped me sort of understand it's place in the album more. If I'd never heard it before the rest, I might have felt it a little out of place.

I think Licfli is the only track on the EP/album that I still don't really like, but even that might grow on me eventually. Right now it kind of sounds like yet another fast blippy robotty track, like Pencha and Acroyear2, but like after doing those two they ran out of ideas.

I link Blifil and Liccflii together, only because their name, but that still makes me like them both a lot.

It's hard for me to dislike any bit of EP7 as it was a "My First Autechre" moment.

But don't you love when it burns up and gets all crunchy in the middle? Back when bitcrushing wasn't dated.

Hehe yeah that bit does sound a bit dated these days... you know I think it's mainly cos it's after Dropp, which is really pretty and emotional, and after it is Maphive6.1 which is... well... do I really need to say anything... and Liccfli just seems like "dumb fun" to me (not that it's "dumb", there's obviously a lot of thought put into it, but in the end I can't imagine the appeal being much deeper than a well produced dance or drum and bass track)

i like the Liccfli max/msp patch better than the actual track.

I googled this and found the old page you set up but the links to the mp3's were gone. I don't have software to run it either.

Hello guys, I'm new here. And already I've got a question:

Does anyone know if the Bleep download of EP7 has got the hidden track as well?

Cheers!

Roland
