Or you know, there should be a mass consensus that Alien was really cool once, and really great, and that it's been ruined beyond compare and that we should just leave it alone now.

Oddly enough Ive been knee deep in giger designs all week especially this weekend and in my opinion its nothing more than a placement of a visual metaphor.These designs by giger were given titles like pilot in cock pit.I wont labour the obvious point about the wording.

Gigers designs are often thought of as erotomechanical,one step on from biomecha.His apocalyptic landscapes often interchangable with the pain of childbirth,the gun as an extension of penis etc etc.

I think the pilot was displayed as something to do with male conquest or the death in trying to conquer.

Alien,after all being about females,gestation,birth and fighting for survival.

A womans lot is especially not a happy one in space where noone can hear you scream(or whine).

Well, in Alien3 a dog/cow (depending on which version you watch) gets attacked by a facehugger so the facehuggers don't target humans only.

Yes but that dog was bigger and I guess the alien that came out was kinda big too. Now imagine a cat's alien lol, actually it would be worth a shot to see it in a alien movie (possibly directed by some Mel Brooks).

Absolutely. Isn't that what's so creepy about the Giger paintings anyway? You see stills from worlds and situations you can't fully understand, so you're forced to think about it and automaticall come up with the most horrible individual thoughts. Also I never got the people that only watch a film/series to find out how everything will end and be explained in the very last episode. It's not that important to me. I like when I'm allowed to imagine stuff.

Motherfuck, the Alien let Jonesy get away. There's a fucking scene where the Alien is looking at the catinabox, and you can see the gears turning in its eyeless, phallic head-- it's staring at the cat and the Alien does a little "barroo?" head-tilt. So here's this cat, which is both a symbol of a (tranquil, domestic) world outside of the confines of Nostromo and which is something that Ripley obviously cares about. Ok? And then the Alien sees that cat, and immediately hides away in the fucking shuttle which is about to make its escape from the Nostromo, and ostensibly head towards this world with all kinds of biological diversity to fuck with. And also Ripley lets her guard down because having the cat safe as she enters the shuttle makes her feel like she's actually escaped, and it takes her for-fucking-ever to realize that the Alien is on board too. And even if the Alien doesn't literally think this shit, the cat serves its symbolic purpose in the same way.

And what, you want Ripley to take it back to LV-426 in Aliens just so's the x-tra killable Aliens therein can munch on it? WHAT THE FUCK MAN.

because a facehugger and the fully grown alien are two completely different things

The alien drools over the cat once it's already in a stasis tube and then slams the tube away and moves on. If it had wanted to it could've smashed through the glass and still killed it.

I don't know, maybe it's something to do with being hosted by a human. Perhaps it only has eyes for humans. You have to keep the biology of the alien within the first film and forget that as a dog-alien it still kills humans.

I fucking love the Alien films. The planned Alien prequal could be good, I assume its going to be about how the Weyland corporation go in search of the species (keeping in mind that AvP is pretty much a prequal showing how Mr. Weyland first encounters the species and dies lol ).

I read all of the books that expanded on the world - they were quite good. Started on the graphic novels as dark horse have been releasing omnibus volumes in the UK but not got too far with them yet.

AvP2 is just fucking stupid though. Lamest film ive seen in years. Shitty cast, shit story, and most irritatingly its filmed too dark so you cant see half of the shit that goes on (to the point of being confusing... Alien is dark but in the right way to build tension).
