I have a feeling like the "space jockey", Scott's going for fanwank and we'll finally see what C-Beams and Tannhauser Gate look like, and just like the Clone Wars in Star Wars, we'll wish they were still just referred to and not realized on screen.

you just made me do a sadfase :(

if the new film has a comic relief character i'll just bow out of the theatre and drown out the destruction of more of my childhood with a 26er of wild turkey or something

"Collider was at the Robin Hood junket today and learned that Ridley Scott has plans for not one, but two prequel films. Scott referred to the two films as “prequel one and two”, but admits that he is only working on part one at the moment"

Interesting

Can't wait for the sterile, glossy and fake looking CGI, actually Ridley Scott isn't too bad, his Black Hawk Down was pretty good when it came to the CGI but I miss how they filmed those space shots back in the 70's and 80's.

yeah fuck cgi, as longs as its used to help enhance the film. I just want a good story that interests me. It'll be interesting to find out what the space jockey is and where these aliens originated from. No doubt there will be some kind of 3d facehugger shot in there somewhere.

If there is going to be two prequels happening how cool would it be for ridley and cameron to work together on the 2nd one? They know all there is to the alien universe. Im sure i read ages ago a rumour that they were thinking of teaming up for a sequel. Probably a load of fanboy bullshit.

Also be good to see ridley collaborate with giger again for some new fucked up designs

As far as I'm concerned Cameron should get the fuck away as far as possible from alien. I don't even trust Scott enough, but THAT guy, fuck!

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

No doubt ridley will explain the backstory of the space jockey in the upcoming alien prequel. I think it's best that we dont know what it is or where it came from and try and imagine it for ourselves.

It's supposed to be in 3D too. Man fuck this 3D bollox. I still believe its a gimmick and have no interest in it whatsoever.

yeah any story which explains everything often destroys your imagination.

isnt the 3d stuff just a naive attempt at stopping piracy and getting more people into the cinema?

its amusing how 3d died out years ago as lame, but all the pr has managed to get it in vogue again.

I don't like cgi or 3d when it's only serving to make things look more flashy. But I think 3d could be well used in pixar-typed movies as the whole picture is artificial anyway, made with polygons and stuff and I guess 3d could make it look more functional.

But that's it, if you give me Godfather or Stalker or something of the sort in 3d I'll start shooting.

It is human nature to want more of what we like. As is too often the case though, once we receive what we believe we wanted, we are disappointed and forced to endure something terrible that goes on for far too long. New movies aren't made for nostalgic thirty-somethings who remember what matte-painting and miniatures look like. The franchise name is used to drag you into the theater but the actual film itself is made with today's technology for today's target demographic. Considering the state of american film at the moment (and I could hardly imagine it worse really), do you expect to be impressed with a fucking franchise prequel (or two)? At least the 'greatest movie of all time' is being released to blu ray and I can cancel my plans to go to an actual theme park. bonus!

i was reading an interview with scott, he's got a blade runner prequel in the works as well.

maybe this is sort of the hollywood equivalent of how rock stars go on tour in their middle age and play nostalgic covers of their greatest hits from back in the day

God dammit - if he fucks up Blade Runner with a prequel, I will shit on the display in Wal*Mart

from what i've read on the interwebs, Purefold (the title of the prequel) will be set in the same "universe" as Blade Runner, but won't directly reference characters or events from the film due to rights issues.

I haven't read any rumours on a prequel to Blade Runner in a long time. Where did you read about it?

Fuck.

I'm sure it won't make its way to the big screen though.

well, it's supposed to be a series of 10 min shorts, so i doubt it too.

That's the one... (ok it's not a film.. misread it!)

I wonder how many of the products featured in the new series will fall victim to the blade runner curse like in the original film.

That's a lol and come to think of it, Westwood (the game company that made the Blade Runner game back in 1997) was closed by EA in 2003...

Oh shit...

  Quote
The acid-blood sleek-skinned aliens dreamed up by H.R. Giger and Ridley Scott are among the most memorable creature designs in movie history. But Scott says they're "worn out" thanks to endless sequels, and they won't be in his new prequels.

In an interview with Screen Daily, the director revealed that he has plans to redesign the aliens, and show how they became the majestic killing machines we know and love.

He also explains a bit more about the storyline of his two prequels:

The film will be really tough, really nasty. It's the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would actually go in and clean up a planet? It will take place in the years before that, when they first come across this thing on a planet called Zeta Reticuli. ...

Yeah, the thing about Alien vs Predator is, I know it's commerce, but what a pity... I think, therefore, I have to design - or redesign - earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out."
