thats quite interesting, reminds me of my advanced-course in german where we read Gottfried Benns "Quartär". Our teacher told us that Alien 3 (or was it 4?) is based on that poem, because you cant tell where reproduction begins or ends.

He said that the Weyland-Yutani company has yet to be formed. "Weyland hasn't joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland," Scott explained. "[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life."

 

Regarding Weaver's participation, Scott said: "It will be before she was born! [but] the main character will be a woman."

 

He added that the alien will have to be updated. "I have to design — or redesign — earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out."

 

Finally, Scott said that the plan is to have the prequel in theaters by end of 2011 or find the best date in 2012.

yeah i agree there. Cronenweth is someone you can't emulate. Same with Syd Mead and Moebius. i'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to get hold of those guys for design stuff again, and even if they did, like you say - it's crystalised.

Exactly - it's a package. Even the music, while dated, fits perfectly and couldn't be anything else. It wouldn't be Blade Runner.
