I don't see why Fact and Pitchfork are suddenly covering this... he's been playing unreleased stuff for years now!

because the recording is of unusual high quality

The quality isn't that good, is it? OK, the bass is not distorted, but the presence in the mids and highs is pretty absent?

Maybe Richards ears ain't what they used to be.... You lose those frequencies with age...

I mean, the weakest link here isn't the Youtube compression, is it? A CD rip or a soundboard recording would still sound better?

a soundboard recording would sound better. but not by much.

this has to be one of the best sounding mic recordings i've ever heard.

Compared to what?

Come on, imagine what a competent engineer, without the hassle of chatting friends, bumping bypassers or the scare of getting thrown out of the venue for bootlegging, could accomplish?

Pitchfork saying the audio quality is "impeccable" is just plain BS.

By the way, I enjoyed the recording very much, but it's still just a "listenable" in-crowd bootleg. If the track itself wasn't so goddamn good and unavailable in better quality I wouldn't listen to it more than once.

so you provide a recording of a classical instrument, being played in what could arguably be an acoustically sound room, with no audience to dampen frequencies....you provide this as counter to my claim?

classy.

for what it's worth, i agree that the audio quality isn't impeccable, as that would imply a soundboard recording.

maybe i should elaborate on my statement. it is the best recording of a live performance made with a mic in such "extreme" circumstances.

Guest bunty

psn, why on earth you are comparing the recording with that of a classical concert I don't know. If you want to understand why Pitchfork are making such a big deal of it, you should be comparing it with the uniformly dismal sound quality of the live recordings of RDJ's recent unreleased tracks

I don't get the fucking appeal of manchester track. This new track sounds like Xtal + [Lichen] the best tuss/analord stuff. Also that stupid repetitive Dr. Wily-sounding track (Reconstruction) is gay too f you guys and you unwarranted praise of random live tracks

EQ it yourself if you must. I did!

mind sharing?

Sure, I didn't try and take out any background noise, but I just made it sound a bit richer. I also averaged out the channels as it was a bit lopsided on the left side. I dunno. Sounds better to me. I'll up it in a sec I have my g/f over n I'm cooking.

I agree though, this new one is probably one of his best tracks ever

yeah scratch that, I can see the appeal of manchester track before as ELUSIVE track, but the new track is like 'manchester who?'

Richard is actually completely deaf at this point and can only detect bass frequencies by feel.

Have you been listening to lots of classical music? Is this a sign that you're mellowing in your old age?

I have actually gone deaf from djing and so I cant listen to any music at all,im totally gutted, have learnt how to lip read and I can still mix records by smelling the grooves.

I believe he ripped off this concept from this guy. Drexciya interview provided some similar ureka moments
