Richard is actually completely deaf at this point and can only detect bass frequencies by feel.

Have you been listening to lots of classical music? Is this a sign that you're mellowing in your old age?

I have actually gone deaf from djing and so I cant listen to any music at all,im totally gutted, have learnt how to lip read and I can still mix records by smelling the grooves.

I believe he ripped off this concept from this guy. Drexciya interview provided some similar ureka moments

Yeah i read that interview, it was probably in my subsconscious when I wrote my post.

psn, why on earth you are comparing the recording with that of a classical concert I don't know. If you want to understand why Pitchfork are making such a big deal of it, you should be comparing it with the uniformly dismal sound quality of the live recordings of RDJ's recent unreleased tracks

To clear things up - I already said it's good for what it is, that the conditions weren't ideal, etc, and:

- someone said the recording is "impeccable", and I said "really?"

- someone said it sounds "excellent" "for a youtube vid", and I provided an example of an excellenter sounding youtube video

- someone said the it's the best "mic recording" they ever heard, and I thought "well I can think of a million better recordings captured with mics - let's say, Far Side of the Moon or a Deutsche Grammphon record or whatever" - and I provided an example

- I rhetorically asked "compared to what?"

Cheers to sneaksta for a cleanup! The lopsidedness was slightly annoying.

And sorry for being Mr. Pedantic. Enjoy the weekend!

i prefer the manchester track, but i think it's a matter of taste. i just love the whole groove of it and especially the singing part is awesome. the metz track is a bit more complex i think. i'm glad mcgregor caught it in this kind of quality, i'm listening to it over and over again .

I'm telling you, they know something we don't...Aphex has been playing unreleased tracks for years, in decent quality too...why this one, why now?

Maybe, because...

Rumours have been mounting of a new Aphex Twin album since Warp's anniversary last year. The producer confirmed a host of tour dates this summer, indicating to some that the Cornwall genius was hatching new plans.

Now audio recordings have surfaced from the shows indicating that Aphex Twin is indeed working on new material. A spokesperson for Warp confirmed the news to Pitchfork: "Richard himself says his sets are full of unreleased tunes    ."

But still, like you said, I think they know more.

The only thing that makes me happier than this track is the fact that he's grown his pretty hair back.

i was just thinking about commenting on the aesthetic aphex tries so hard to capture but then rescinded my comment because i thought it would diminish the resulting appreciation of what matters: his music.

WB

wow! it's been confirmed that it'll be a triple album, thus ending his contract with warp, again, that clever bastard..

yeah, oldskool richard's back with a new album !

Fucking too right. All this speak of middle-aged Richard with babies in tow, no more crazy music, just pipe and slippers and a log fire etc etc. It's new mental tunes with the old-school savage viking haircut to boot!

The Omens are good.
