I've watched the first 3 episodes and so far I think it blows. I love louis ck but this season seems like overworked moralistic pap.

fat girls. rich people. fucking heavy brah.

The fat girl ep fell flat for me, but this season's been pretty good so far.

i i liked it a lot. the directing in the scene at the end was striking.

dunno if he hit his stride in season 3 or if that's just when i realized, but this is an amazing tv show. it's kind of like how some podcasts try to be a comedy podcast and end up sucking, and some podcasts done by comedians don't try to be comedy but are a lot funnier. it seems like he isn't necessarily trying to make his show a comedy, he is just trying to make it interesting.

I absolutely loved everything I saw so far. It's not all very funny as much as it is well made.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

Yeah the direction is what did it for me during those scenes, in fact some of my best memories of Louis is the direction and editing, not the humor!. It was something special, directly out of a typical Woody Allen movie. I would rather have interesting comedy that sometimes doesn't hit the mark, than just a "joke-a-minute" thing.

i just got caught up on the 4th season, i love it, everything that i love about the previous seasons has improved with this season, and i like how they removed the theme song.

I love that Louie is as popular as it is.

I think it demonstrates that people have good taste when given the opportunity. Like if corporate mainstream media was to play thoughtful creative experimental art-minded stuff, then maybe people would give it a chance, and who knows what the world might look like then.

I agree Limpy Loo. I think you have to sneak some subversive things into people's heads to shake people out of their comfort drone zone and make them feel alive. You literally gave to rape them with art... I mean... Yeah

so I'm really the only one who thinks this has tipped into a trite salon.com moral drama?

I don't see any moralizing. I just see observational comedy, and what-if comedy.

The fat girl thing is no different than the oral sex in the truck thing. It's like, 'hey let's take this little aspect of the world and investigate it...let's freeze this moment and look inside people's heads.'

The sleeping with the model thing is just the old good-things-never-go-off-without-a-hitch gag. He's not moralizing about casual sex or taking risks or whatever. It's more like 'this is how the universe tends to treat me.'

Louis CK--of all people--doesn't moralize.

It's unfortunate that the 'fat girl' episode got the ridiculous press it got because it was spun into a moral matter.

On casting an African-American woman as Louie's ex-wife even though his kids are white:

"It just was the actress being as good as she was and the character feeling right. I think when people first see her, their brains do a little DNA map and go, "I'm not sure how that would happen." And I think with my show people say Ahh, just go ahead. And then they watch the scene. The thing that's important is what's getting said. Her performances are really compelling. I like what that character brings out in me and in the show, so for me, that trumped whatever logistical notion. She's very direct and very self-possessed. And she's got a great demeanor for someone who has moved on in her life. She's moved on in life and she's on a good new chapter, and she looks like she's in a better new chapter than me, as far as us having shared a chapter earlier. So I think that's a good contrast."

This season has had some funny moments, the rich girl episode had me in stitches. But the hungarian girl thing is so dark and serious, I barely even realized I was watching Louie - I know he does the writing and editing and stuff himself and he's trying out new angles, it's cool to watch, though I prefer the less serious episodes.

last two episodes (9/10) were hilarious.

The hurricane scenes? Louie sucking at rape? (plus we get a relatively long stand-up bit from him which is always a bonus).

The moralizing - meh so what - life is full of that shit, it doesn't make it any less real. That's the thing about this show - it's like a novel in the magical realism genre - full of real life, but with weird unexplained shit happening.

Anyways, love the shit out of this - well lush innit.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Absolutely agree! Loved the sucking at rape bit as well (plus the standup was... Some of his best (religion based) stuff yet and more along the lines of material you'd expect from full standup routine).

Loving it !
