yeah. actually just after i posted that i had another go at the free version and spent two hours digging a giant hole in the ground and making a 'pool level' above it. i'd better quit now.

so i skinned it. really easy.

I wish you could make a functioning elevator platform. Water works as a good "down" elevator, but we still need an up elevator option.

also Kaini I want to see a shot of one of your mines, are they as anal as your aboveground construction? I'm pretty relaxed about my aboveground construction, but for some reason am very anal about "cleaning up" my mines.

game is full of unexpected beauty...

lumpy. on my previous landscape they somewhat were, with a series of stairs with signposts directing to various layers. on this, not so much, because it happened to plonk the spawn over the largest set of natural caves i've seen yet.

lava is flowing from a vent about 40 blocks up... water from one about 60.

I'm carving out an absolutely massive room down at bedrock, it's crazy!

I want to make a water lift, can someone give me simple step by step instructions on how to make it. How to I make a water spring? I want to go from surface to bedrock if possible. If I can make a water spring could I just make a huge tunnel to jump down and land in safely?

Yeah, same here. It's a fucking nightmare!

I don't know if you've checked my game file I uploaded a few days ago (of course not, lol) but you can see how I've hollowed the caverns out and made them symmetrical as much as possible and where I've accidentally come across new caves... The mine is fucking enormous.

Obel, I did download your file but it was a bunch of fucking folders and it scared me. Isn't it just stored in one folder somewhere?

Really? I'm sure I zipped the World 1 folder... That should have remained...

They will need to be in one folder in AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves or something. The folders are named World1 - 5 so name it whichever world you don't use. Also it's worth knowing this location so you can back up your world. Saves have been known to corrupt on Minecraft! I'm scared of losing all my shit!

I don't think you can make a spring, you have to divert from somewhere else, or dig under the sea. What I always do is go down into a mine, then find the most centrally located, deepest, most fruitful part of the mine, then build a spiral staircase up to the surface, then when I get to the surface dig a single cube tunnel to the side of my spiral staircase all the way down to the base of of my spiral staircase (make sure to end in a single cube deep "pit" so the water is contained). Then just divert some water into the hole and voila, a "down elevator" into the heart of your mine.

one thing i forgot to mention - if you're creating the water lift to bedrock, you better put a few steps on the way down so you can go out and catch your breath, or you'll drown in your elevator (or fall to your death trying to stick your head out from it, lol)

cheers dude, ive got some major ground works to do i reckon. I thought it would be cool to base my world on a series of small islands, and then connect them up with some cool bridges. at the moment i have one way up and down to my huge mine, but i want to make lifts on each of the other islands.

there's a door just to the left, this is what's behind it a ways. down there is chock full of stuff. right after i took these screenshots, i went down there and mined 3 full stacks of red dust. best random map ever!
