cow thing will probably be fixed with the final release, things should despawn after a while no?

animals dont despawn. It was changed for the animal breeding i think

Yea, that was kind of lame. Justifying death and all of that in a video game was a bit much. But it was an easier read than the 10 minute long tutorials.

i actually have only read like the first 10 pages so.. idk. i just thought it was a really good thing to get me to learn the basic concept of the game when i didnt know anything about it and downloaded it

are they spawning on top of valuable stuff? if not, could you set your view distance to "tiny", go up to 127 high, then drop tnt from above?

I assume the lag is from the server, if im wrong maybe someone else should try to kill the cows.

Shoot a bunch of arrows from afar for a long time.

nah man if you go up in the sky it still loads them on the ground. you may as well just walk on foot. (wouldn't recommend it)

I couldn't even get close enough to see them. It disconnects you with "end of stream" error. When you log back in you have enough time to move about 2 blocks before it boots you again. I even put render distance on tiny and graphics on simple and still could barely move those 2 blocks to escape. It does lag the server and everybody else online.

what are you guys talkin about?? the xp orb bug or what?

Well we don't know properly whats going on, kokoon is obviously busy.

ok so here's what's up:

- apparently some chunk(s?) around pete's trap got corrupted, resulting in spawning of few thousand sheep per minute

- i took some time and removed all the sheep from the area using mcedit (and it wasn't that easy)

- i fired up the server, went there and took a look around. the sheep started to spawn again endlessly

the last few backups are from:

2011-11-02 (definitely not broken)

2011-11-11 (not sure)

2011-11-16 (definitely broken)

at the moment we're using the first one of the three, simply because i didn't have any more time to play around with the second one. also, it's well possible that just the offending chunks in the last one could be replaced with ones from a backup.

now you see, i'm quite a busy man. i have a job and these days i'm also attending a film festival, 2+ screenings a day. so i won't have the time for this for another week or so. what i can do though, is give the backups to a volunteer, if somebody is prepared to take on the task. i think the best option would be to transplant the region around pete's from an older save. careful though, the world is almost 1GB big.

cant you guys use mc edit and totally get rid of that piece of land? thats how i fixed the xp orb thing on my server

thanks for having a go with it, koko; obviously I'd be keen on the last of the three - alas, I have no idea what I'm doing. I know moments of intense frustration are part and parcel with MC but it's just that an enormous amount of development had been done (true, this is probably mostly my concern... though I'm sure others have done a lot too - Couch's Pirate Ship and port come to mind) in the last few days.
