squarepusher albums vs live play

So many threads pop up about this or that LP being amazing but, as with Squarepusher and Autechre, I really think Aphex Twin is best in the live setting (DJing or live-live). I never really repeat-listen to his studio releases as they are but get massive goosebumbs when say, a drukqs track is dropped in a live-set. More-often or not.. i'll hear a live track, go back to the album/ep but then, on dissatisfaction not bother with it as the live version, in the context of atmosphere etc is hugely more musically satisfying. You gotta love the mixing and the small breaks/effects too. Album tracks just sound too tinny or something.... too clean... even on vinyl and even compared to a filthy live mp3 recording.

Anyone else feel similarly?

He puts as much more into his live sets as he does into his recordings. At least it sounds that way.

But I like em both in different ways. Maybe you just prefer live music? But his live gigs are like some sort of lucky dip bag. Theyre exciting because you don't what he'll play. It could be anything!

Apparently Aphex Twin is playing at Big Day Out. I would love to see it, but is it worth spending several hundred (New Zealand) dollars to go (I would have to fly there), when I am not particularly excited about other acts?

I definitely prefer listening to aphex from the comfort of my couch, but I'm old and have a bad back. These young people with their drugs and alcohol, they are so noisy and sweaty, making it hard to stroke my chin in the proper manner.
