france bans the face veil/burqa

World War 3 here we come.

i am picturing a cartoon video. muslim in burqa walks over vent grating in the sidewalk. BLAST OF AIR! just like marilyn monroe. the veil lifts for a tantalizing glimpse.... oh, whoops, it's a male muslim crossdresser.

i feel kind of disrespected when i see the burqas, oddly. i guess it sends off a "go away, i don't want to talk with you" message. what's wrong with me? :angry:

but i suppose i do the same thing with sunglasses, so i have no right to complain.

People should be able to wear whatever the fuck they want. Now whether what they are wearing has been imposed on them by a repressive religious order is a completely different matter and one that won't be resolved instantly. And certainly it shouldn't invalidate the first statement, that people should be able to wear whatever the fuck they want.

Except say a motorcycle helmet, in a bank. To not go against this rule, those ladies can do internet banking. Or let their husband do the banking, as is right.

if people just pretended they were in a star wars cosplay, a lot of the world's problems would be solved.

I don't buy the security angle either. Lets look at the reason why they wear the burka. I believe it is to hide themselves from males in their culture who cannot control their urges. If this is the case in their country of origin, so be it. But if this is presumption they make in my country, about me, then I am offended.

The burka is just as much an allegation about all men.

First they came for the hijab wearers

and I didn't speak out because I didn't wear a hijab.

Then they came for the people who liked guns,

and I didn't speak out because I didn't like guns.

Then they came for republicans,

and I didn't speak out because I was not a republican.

Then they came for the WATMMers,

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

In france, we don't need to have guns, we already have our average 16.01 cm

I want to say its a good thing because i think the muslim religion at heart is very chauvinistic, along with most religions, but then it could be justified that other religious clothing could be banned and then it makes it clear why people think this one thing is ok solely out of prejudice. Which is not like.. the future man. Ironically religions are taking their ideology from the very distant and backward past but secular people have to embrace progressive thinking to have tolerance

if only they'd banned spandex on fat people, i could get behind this law

You also have to take into consideration the right's attitude toward this problem. From the beginning on, Sarkozy has put much efforts into broadening his political group. They never made public pacts with the far-right though. Their plan was to increase formal relations with the left (), and reuse the ideas of the far-right without drawing any direct link with the Front National. The right legitimated their ideas, and we now risk to have their leaders legitimated through the coming presidential elections (20-30 % during the second round).

That's why my rhetoric is so perfect. They could pass for humanists.

my point was that if you want to avoid drawing attention to yourself, it's not a terribly good strategy.

I know you're being rhetorical, but because france doesn't have a fertility rate that meets the replacement rate. When that happens you get a society full of old people like Japan.

I think it all boils down to cultural differences; it's understandable the French are afraid of alien customs and garb. To which I propose this simple, elegant, culturally sensitive (and dare I say stylish?) solution:
