Reed's vocals are fucking TERRIBLE over Metallica.

There are some nice instrumental passages though, the ambience in particular. I really liked the atmosphere of the thrash track actually, but the drums sound atrocious.

i don't know what happened but half way through track 3 i started enjoying this shit and now i'm listening to it again

yeah im feeling this one as well. reed moaning "pumping blood" over metallica works.

plus it contains this lyric lol jesus

I will swallow your sharpest cutter /Like a colored man's dick

lots of violent imagery here..

on first listen its not great but its not as bad as people are making it out to be + good luck to them all for trying something different. somehow made more sense + was more entertaining reading the lyrics on the website along with the tunes i thought. all in all quite liked it but maybe just cos people said its shit

totally. thats what it took for me to really get into it.

i dont think "mistress dread" works all that well but most of the stuff on here is beautifully dark and quite epic sounding.. some great guitar loops, noise from lou.. and hetfields backing vocals are used tastefully.. i like how its pretty much already universally despised, but im not liking it in reaction to that.

people need to take more chances, artists and listeners alike..

Oh, there's no doubt I'll download this, dunno if I'd listen more than a couple of times but I really want to hear the atmospheric stuff in full..

yeah i agree that mistress dread one dosent really work they maybe should of let hetfield do more of the vocals on that one altho i dont really like his pantomime villain style vocals much but he would have been better on that tune maybe, lou reed sounds like hes singing a totally different track to what theyre playing sometimes. just listening to it again and like it better its actually pretty cool if you pay attention to the lyrics + the band overall sound pretty good, maybe some of the atmospheric stuff goes on a bit too long for my tastes tho theres no need for the last tune to be 20 mins even tho its a nice track . and yeah i do think its a bit pathetic that probably the most interesting thing happening in rock music at the moment (and maybe generally in most music) is made by a bunch of middle aged metal guys + a 70 year old ex junkie and theyre already getting totally slaughtered for it. which is pretty great too in a way

yeah that drone probably goes on for a bit too long, but i like the calm resignation of that track, especially in contrast with all the violence and darkness that make up most of the album.

some great great lines in this one as well

Won’t you pull me up

Scalding, my dead father

Has the motor and he’s driving towards

An island of lost souls

those lines play in my head like a movie. again, really vivid imagery.

i listen to jandek for enjoyment, and this is just bad music. there's no way around it.

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

its really not that different than what reed has been putting out for the past ten years or so, just with a harder edge. now that doesnt do much to negate the "this is just bad music" criticism, as god knows people have shit all over that stuff, but because its metallica that hes collaborating with its supposed to take on a new dimension of horrible, i just dont buy it.

I gave The View a chance when it was released and couldn't stand it. I was willing to give the album another chance as well... but after the first song my mind was pretty much made up. This is terrible... I can't remember the last time I heard something I immediately disliked so much. I even went further and listened to a couple more tracks, but no change. Nothing on here works for me... not a single element.

even if i didnt like it, reactions like this would make it fascinating to me.

well, I admit to being a little bit intrigued as I listened through (or I wouldn't have let it play on a bit), but the feelings never got any better lol

It's still got Lars Ulrich on drums though, I guess it's pretty cool if you like off tempo cymbals.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Just listened to the first disc while buying groceries (on mp3, didn't pay for it, heh). I was hoping Hetfield would yell about being the table on more songs, but there were still a few shining chuckle moments. Oh Lars.

Nah, you're thinking of Grinderman. (Okay, so Nick Cave's not quite pushing 70 yet, but close enough.)

I think the mixing makes it even worse. If they put a bunch of reverse reverb on Reed's vocals it would sound so much better lol
