I have a gut feeling that this album might be proclaimed a masterpeice in about 20 years time.

luckily they are close to perfecting gut transplants

hate to say I-told-you-so, but gut feeling confirmed, though much sooner than 20 years

Bowie's material hasn't exactly been great the last couple of decades, so I'd take his judgement with a pinch of salt.

never did get around to hearing this, even if just for the laughs.

Bowie's been remarkably consistent for most of his career. The only Bowie album I'd actually consider bad is Hours. But I still don't know that I'd trust his taste in music. Most great artists love at least some shit music. His comment did put this album back on my radar though, and I do want to hear it at least once (was scouring google for a non-torrent download of it to no avail just before coming here [because torrents render my internets useless for anything other than the torrenting]). The drums on that one single(?) were mind boggling.

Listening again. The vocals are definitely the worst part, maybe just because they're so damn dry. I'd most likely actually pay for it if it were completely instrumental, since the music is actually pretty strong.

Lars Ulrich is the worst part, always.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

oh right! I admit I haven't heard their recent work, but once someone told me about how bad the drums were, that's all I can hear haha

I finally listened to this. For most of the album, I felt like I was listening to two unrelated albums that had been squashed together. But on Little Dog it seemed like the two disparate elements were finally working together aesthetically, and the remainder of the album worked for me. Metallica have mentioned wanting to try something new with the album, but their contribution sounds exactly like what they've always done minus the careful guitar/song arrangements. Overall i think it would have been better as a spoken word album. But if I'm ever compelled to listen again maybe I'll change my tune. I was warming to it by the end, so anything's possible.

We should totally have a Lulu listening party one of these days!

This album matures in a very strange way with age.

It’s still completely hilarious, on one hand. On the other, it’s probably one of the most cathartic albums I’ve ever heard.

I still can’t believe this actually happened.

Btw, if anyone hasn’t heard the WTF podcast interview with James Hetfield, he talks a little about it...
