A quick questions for you guys, what are the best multivitamin supplements (in your opinion), i have been using centrum (the most popular i guess).

This is what i'm taking at the moment: Centrum multivitamins, Pronutrients Omega-3 and Pronutrients Fruit and Veggie. (Plus Muscle Milk after workouts)

Is there something that i'm missing? what combinations of supplements would you guys recommend?

Whey protein (isolate) for post workouts, a protein blend as a meal replacement (casein, hydrolysate, and whey + egg albumin), glutamine for post workout and right before bed.

Also invest in some branched chain amino acids.

Use those if you want to keep things relatively natural.

The chemical route involves creatine and stimulants etc.

I recommend keeping it natural.

my diet is still shit. eat an entire bag of chips about every other night. Have successfully dropped beef due to suspicions it has been responsible for regular bouts of 6 or 7 shits on the bristol scale. Seems to be helping as I've only had 1 episode since dropping it, down from 3/wk at least before.

Workouts are getting better since the ulcer.

4-5 times per week im doing the following:

1. 30 mins on a spin bike. not cranking out much but prolly a 160 watt average for now. I used to be a cyclist for reals so I realize that 160 is just about nothing.

2. 4000 meters on the row machine (2000 m steady, 4x500m at faster pace with 60 second breaks). I'm working primarily on form as Iv'e never actually rowed in r/l. the 500 m sprints I'm getting down to 2:10-2:15 without killing myself. that's down from 2:30 easily and only being able to do 1000 meters a night.

3. various weights alternating between upper body to help me row faster and a couple of leg exercises.

I'm starting to really go stir crazy, not being able to ride or exercise with this cast on. I was doing about 10 miles a day, 5 days a week, and now I am doing 0. I feel gross and tired and kind of depressed.

And once the cast is off my arm will be withered and our of shape, and I'll have to rebuild it.

Do not like.

In theory, but with my commute my days are 13.5 hours. I come home, eat, and go to bed. Riding was my commute which was awesome. Now it's public.

I broke my wrist in a bike accident, and it's a long arm cast...

I feel your pain.

I have been doing 10-25 mile commutes daily on my single-speed (two jobs and school). Then last wednesday I was blindsided by some ******** in his sister's silverado, got thrown and shattered my right femur up near the groin. Just got out of the hospital this afternoon, looking at months of recovery time, inability to get around town, shower, sit, poop properly, etc. Basically my existence went from utter joy to utter shite over the course of a single morning.

lessons learned: 1) riding responsibly (following rules of road) does not protect against knuckle-dragging morons.

2) broken femurs SUCK.

3) if you get in an accident without a helmet, everyone gives you "i told you so" looks (even if your head is fine and a helmet wouldn't have helped anyway).

4) yes, you should wear a helmet even on familiar, 10-min commutes.

5) autechre and hospital machinery ambiance often compliment each other quite nicely.

6) retributive karma isn't real.

anyway, I hope your arm heals soon, kcinsu.

doorjamb, how are you coming along?

I figured this thread should be resurrected just to see where we all stand.

Personally i was slowing down on progress with lifting, and I finally figured out why. Was burning off all the muscle from having way too many jobs. Now I just lift once a week and eat a ridiculous amount of food afterwards. Doesn't matter if its all healthy or not, as long as its protein rich, its going down the gullet.

Im very happy to say that even though my waistline has expanded, most of the expansion is muscle. Huge explosion in weight increases on my lifts, some in excess of +20 lbs. within a single month. I am finally benching more than my entire body weight fairly easily (in that i am able to do the 3 sets of 6 reps strength training). Basically im incorporating deadlifts and pull-ups into my regular routine to help the back out a little more.

So there's most of the trick for me I think....I was so afraid of being fat again that I ended up just lifting for cardio purposes and not much else.....and I can always find time to run a half hour here or there to burn off all the fatty shit ive been consuming.

That's another huge step for me progress wise....im finally able to jog for 45 minutes straight at a fairly high pace. I have never, EVER been able to do that before in my life, even when I played football. Finally realizing what everyone else has been saying; once you can keep a sustainable jog going, you don't want to stop.

I am posting this in the hopes that others have continued some progress to better fitness and health!

for a couple of years, i have been too lethargic for regular workouts, but lately, my meditation practice has gotten me crazy amounts of energy so i have to let it out with yoga and prison workout-routines. it's a great feeling.

I'm doing okay, thanks. My surgical scars are healing nicely, and it seems like the bone is knitting up okay. I still can't bend my knee past 150º, but I'm hoping that's due to scarred internal tissues/ligaments rather than some undiagnosed knee issue. Still on crutches and dependent on roommates for groceries and such though; also had to drop all my classes and both jobs.

on a more thread-relevant note, I think my rapid progress is largely due to my refusal to let the injury stop me from exercising. I have a pull up/dip structure and a bench and do a ton of work nearly every day to make up for lack of aerobic exertion. It's nearly all upper body, of course, but it seems to help me sleep and keeps my appetite normal (I eat a TON of yogurt/eggs and lentils/yams/broccoli to compensate for the extra needs of my leg). Normally I wouldn't push myself so hard, but I spend the rest of my time on the couch reading or guitaring or whatever so I reckon it evens out.

sorry that was so wordy; I'm just bored out of my skull cooped up in my place like this :(

I finally broke through that barrier last week. Doing some HIIT on the treadmill. Usually do about 20 mins at a time and the last minute is flat out as fast as possible, well, as fast as I can manage as I'm usually ruined. But suddenly at the 18 min mark I had a rush of energy that I've never experienced before. Felt amazing. Just paced it extremely fast.

I'm the lightest I've been in 4 years, currently at 85kg. Still want to get down to 75kg so long way to go, but it's going well. Met the girl of my dreams on Friday night, just been full of confidence recently and she seemed interested so it's renewed my motivation to just keep powering on. Even if nothing comes of it, I feel great right now.

Should have taken a before picture really...

Nice work man. I'm a bit jealous of your success with meditation. Every time I try it regularly I hate myself. Also, when I go without it completely, I hate myself. I know there's something going on there that I have to figure out, but so far it's elusive. I guess I'm not ready to accept all the stupid shit that happens in my brain.

Sorry wrong thread really. For a while I was doing a parkour conditioning class regularly. Work has gotten in the way recently but I got way stronger in a few months, esp core, leg, and forearm. It's all outdoors, no weights etc just balance & strength training. Great fun.

I get my cast off in 4 days. I've gotten so out of shape without being able to bike or do any kind of muscle work that I was doing before(pushups and free weights, and pullups). My arm basically lost ALL muscle tone. It looks like a twig. Extremely frustrating that I'll have to do about 2 months of physical therapy just to get back to "normal" and then from there I can start working out regularly again. Also lost a lot of chest mass from not being able to do pushups, I've gotten a little bit more flab on my stomach from not biking regularly, and overall I just feel gross.

I plan taking my PT extremely seriously, and once I get back to normal, I really want to push myself to get in top shape. Being deprived of this stuff has made me realize how very important it is for me, and the silver lining of all of this is that I will take it all even more seriously than before.

I've been having shin splints for almost 4 months now. It's so frustrating, hurts like hell and it kills my motivation to exercise to be honest. It's a very common problem I've heard, so I thought I might ask here.

It started when I ran a 10km route, without any build-up, which was quite stupid.

Do anyone here has experience with how to get rid of it? I feel like I've tried everything.

Signed up for a marathon, and so starting to take running a lot more seriously. I run 3 times a week, train for football once, play 11-a-side football on a saturday and 6-a-side on a wednesday. Gets me out of the house!

You shouldn't increase your running distances so quickly, although I'm sure you realise that! I heard someone say that running backwards at the start of the run can help avoid shin splints but that could be bollocks. Make sure you stretch your calves properly because that apparently help for shin splints. You should definitely stretch, run for 5mins and then stretch again before continuing your run.

Two days ago was the first the day I've had a run for over a month. I had to take break, because of the shin splints.

It was completely gone.. until the day I had the first run after the break. Now I can barely walk, it hurt that much. I only ran 3km with a lot of breaks in between, and did a lot of stretching afterwards. I've spent money on new expensive running shoes + shoe soles. It didn't help at all.

Sick of this shit.

I'd either speak to someone in a decent running shop, or speak to a sports physio. It's a common issue and so I'm sure there's a solution for you mate.
