do you work out?

Recommended Posts

I moved from my rented flat and bought a house with stairs in it, lost half a stone in a month purely from going up and down stairs for toilets, tidying up, laundry etc - plus painting walls when I get home from work. Going for regular runs didn't even get me these results last time I tried.

ok, figured out the weight problem for sure....its a bit of muscle (maybe 2-3 lbs) and the rest is water weight.

as an experiment, I brought an empty bottle of water with me the whole day and kept count of how many bottles I drank. Turns out at the end of a day with a 5 mile run in it, I drink about 6-7 LITERS of water. No wonder Im bloated.

My kidneys must be on life support.

hahah, yeah I started doing daily 10 miles at least of biking + home upper body exercise 2-3 weeks ago and its always annoying how initially I seem to be gaining weight despite also a more rigid diet and everything. I assume its just muscle mass etc but it still makes to wonder how effective working out is initially. But after about 3 weeks is when I start to notice my stamina increasing, muscles lasting longer, and more energy in general during the days and thats when I start really making physical progress with biking steep hills. Which is a nice thing about where I live, its very hilly so good for interval exercise.

I'm pretty sure it is harder on your kidneys to not drink enough water than it is to drink a lot. You should make note though if you are pissing completely clear many times you are over-hydrating and you are flushing vitamins out of your system. (says my personal trainer brother)

no offense, but that´s a lot of water for "just" a 5mile run. Is it like really hot where you live..?

Small update.

I am starting to feel the benefits of exercise, very subtle changes in personality/energy. I feel more "happy" throughout the day and more open to human interaction and energy levels are pretty good (not falling asleep in the middle of the day or yawing every 5 seconds). My focus/motivation are the same .. shitty.

This past week i stopped using medication (just did exercise and stuff) and it was probably one of the best weeks in a while, no panic attacks, no depression, etc.

I'm glad i stuck to exercise, im definitely seeing benefits, can't wait 'till i get into eating healthy.

its during the entire day, not just after the run. On a normal day I probably drink about 2-3 liters.

ive also increased to 5.5 miles in an hour! huzzah!

I just went to the gym and did 30min on the elliptical. It was my first workout of the year, other than walking or biking.

I've gone too long. It was hard, but now I feel good. Also, shower's feel sooo much better after a workout. its ridiculous.

I'm going back to the gym after a good 6-month spell of little to no exercise due to anti-social work commitments. I can't wait to start again, I'm only about a stone over my natural weight and before my 6-month hiatus from the gym I was probably in the best shape I've been in since leaving school.

I'm starting up kung-fu lessons with a good friend of mine to make my workouts more interesting and simply because I'd like to learn something along those lines and end up sifu-worthy one day. I use to do muay thai before but after a bad knee injury and think something less disastrous to my joints is what I owe my body.

Well, after 5 months, 3 casts, 1 splint, tons of physical therapy, and a fair chunk of medical bills, I rode my bike home from the repair shop! It felt great, but holy shit I'm out of shape! I was doing roughly 10 miles a day before my accident, and now, a 10 minute bike ride home winded me. Lots of catch up to do, but so excited to start!

Unfortunately my wrist still has a fair amount of pain, so no push ups or weights, or pulls ups for a couple more months at least. But in the mean time I'm going to get back into my bike routine, and try to do other non-arm related exercises.

Interesting, I run the same distance you do 3 times a week and even after a longer run I drink less than 3 L over the whole day. According to my Endomondo-stats I lost 0,4L H2O on the 19k I did last year. (1,78m, 73 kg), which suprised me because I thought it should´ve been way more. :trashbear:

Anyway, congrats on the 5,5miles/h and keep on drinking

I'm the same as Smetty.... On workout days I drink about 6 liters (albeit not all water). A 2hr weight session I will drink a preworkout sup, 600ml, intraworkout sup 600ml, 1 liter water during the workout, 600ml protein shake post workout... around 3 liters all in right there!

Went for a 5K run today. First activity since the summer - took me 25 minutes. Not bad considering the amount I smoked and drank over Christmas.

Back at the gym now, amazing how out of it you can feel after only missing 2 months of regular workout.

Weighed myself this morning after an unhealthy December thru January, pretty much dreading the results. Before I bailed out and started eating unhealthy again I was struggling to get below 85kg, but I decided to stop weighing myself regularly as it ended up being a demotivator. This morning I weighed 82kg, which put a big smile on my face!

So the trick to losing weight is to go on aesthetics and not weigh yourself so regularly! (and healthy eating, exercise etc)

Two fingers to the side of the neck, count for 15 seconds then multiply number of pulses by 4.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone know why "the pod" was banned?

I enjoyed talking with him

Really getting my workout schedule in high gear. Prison style every other day. Taking 2 hour walks in the cold every day. Will start running once it gets warmer. Life is great.
