stupid first world problems you're dealing with

@toaoaoadimo easing into a health routine is all about building the mental infastructure. basically you want to start off with activities that are relatively effortless but kinda mimic the attitude of someone who is actually getting healthy (rather than just ruminating as a person who wants to get healthy at some future moment, which is the trap that many fall into). So for the active component of health (ie exercise) this could be something like going for a daily walk. Most people can do a walk pretty easy, right? No stress. But it gets you into that more physical mode of being & from there it begins to become easier to envision yourself doing some form of more rigorous exercise (certainly much easier than it is to imagine when you haven't gotten off the couch yet). For the passive component (ie not eating like shit) it's basically the same deal - create a rule for yourself which you know you can follow fairly reliably, but which can gradually become more stringent over time (can be all sorts of stuff - your eating schedule, foodtypes, calories, macros, etc)

The key imo is you've got to come up with things you can reliably do right now without pushing yourself too much. They should feel easy. Most people fuck up by imagining all the amazing stuff they're going to start doing tomorrow/next week/next month/in the future & they never start doing it. The change remains a fantasy detached from any actual lived experience. What you want to do is to actualize the process of change in the present, even if it's only in some ridiculously small way. Become accustomed to the feeling of change actually happening - you can build from there.

feel your pain

not much to offer you other than I hope you can find some motivation! It’s tough. But once you get in a groove with exercise and healthy habits it seems easier. Once you fall off it’s hard again.

I think the main problem has been the denial. I was still thinking of myself as someone who has a handle on this stuff, I guess. I know a fair bit about health and nutrition, but you don't see me putting much of that knowledge to use. Basically I know what I have to do but haven't been doing it, and living in a sort of fog of denial, just putting off facing it. The pants thing was a wake up call. 

Deeply ingrained habits are a big part of the problem, like snacking at night in particular. It's pretty scary when you keep saying you won't do it anymore and then do it anyway. There's just so little to enjoy in life these days.

This is 98% me! My big thing is takeout - promise myself I won't have takeout all week, things get busy at work, or I have a shitty day and convince myself it's alright to order something just for that one night (turns into 2-3 nights a week etc) lol. Next thing you know my weight is up 10lb and then I'm on health kick for a couple months, get back on track... then fall back into unhealthy habits. nasty little cycle it is.

a while back i complained about my neighbors across the street playing cornhole (chuckle), the game where you try to throw a bean bag into a hole of a board that is angled towards the thrower like a ramp.. well, my neighbors behind me now are playing like every other day when the weather is decent and there's a few people playing so i hear a thud when the bean bag hits the board and often a cheer. i can hear it in the basement. it's fucking annoying as shit.

i'm just venting.. i don't give a shit except for like 10 minutes groaning before i put my headphones on or close the door in the studio and turn up the volume. 

have had 2x normal caffeine intake today which usually adds up to more shit posting on the internet so there's that. 

also, i don't understand why anyone would play cornhole when horseshoes exists already except that maybe it's easier to play when drunk.

i think they need one of those trampolines w/a net around it. they have hilarious parties sometimes. w/karaoke and loud ass DJ top 40 hits of 80s to present day.  they get pretty loud and obviously wasted. they're not young 20 somethings. a bit older so the party will always have an obvious peak and then crash suddenly... usually as i'm trying to go to sleep.  they've been really predictable for the most part.  i've never complained. people should be able to have parties now and then... neighbors be damned.

Got a call from scammers claiming to be US marshals right before my lunch break at work, saying that some rental car was found south of the Texas border and 12 bank accounts under my name, and that said car had blood and cocaine inside, implicating me in criminal activity. Wasted at least half an hour with these clowns when the one claiming to be "chief" abruptly hang up after I asked them if they were actual US marshals and that I suspect identity theft. I think they had Indian accents.

Should've just let the phone ring, but it was a local area code. Bastards are getting clever I guess. Or, maybe I'll answer it next time, ask for their address, and tell them that my name is Fleece Johnson and that I'm horny.

does anyone know if it's possible to recover files from an old external HD that is no longer booting up correctly? (it's a Maxtor OneTouch Plus 4) .. I lost the power supply at some point (have had this thing for over a decade), so last week I bought a replacement, but the indicator light on the front just feebly blinks once a second and I get no response when plugging into the PC (micro USB 2.0, my OS is windows 10).

there's a LOT of my old b-sides on that hard drive and they're old enough that all the other places they were backed up are also gone. haven't totally lost hope yet, but I'm close... help?

sometimes you can stick the drive in a different enclosure and get it to work but depends on if it's a power issue or something else. sometimes it's not the drive that's bad but is the enclosure. so depending on the connection  standard of the actual drive you might find a cheap enclosure for it. enclosures are typically very inexpensive. 

when i used windows machine i found that some USB ports didn't like some devices and i'd routinely have to switch things up to get access and make shit work.

Have you tried busting the drive out of its case and putting it inside something else, like a computer? Could be just the housing being stupid.

Edit: you could try removing it from the case and putting it in another one, sometimes they stop doing their thing.

It could as well be the logic board. I have 4 HDDs lying in my closet because of this. Lots of data lost forever, unless some miracle...
