stupid first world problems you're dealing with

Ran into an old friend from classes today - a rich military girl with quite an attitude - and she mentioned in passing that her dad was one of three CEO's in charge of creating and maintaining Deepwater Horizon. She also said that her dad told her, as recently as 2004, that "We'll never run out of oil before humans are dead."

the ceo conglomerate is planning to massively reduce the population via nano-blenderbots, so for the remaining couple of thousand zillionaires the existing reserves will indeed last forever.

Yeah.

Just wasn't sure how to feel hearing that one of the CEOs of the oil rig that destroyed the gulf coast subscribes to the idea that we're all just going to kill ourselves anyway so fuck it let's use all the oil and make some money.

She said he also won't come to Seattle to visit her anymore, for three reasons: 1. we banned plastic bags, 2. our city light program encourages people to buy CFLs and not standard lights, and 3. there are too many muslims here. All of this, according to my friend's father, amounts to a socialist and muslim plot to take over the government.

I guess I just wasn't prepared to hear that all the stupid stereotypical stuff I assume about oil barons is actually true in this guy's case. I made a first world :O face when she told me he oversaw Deepwater Horizon. I mean wtf. I would have put the cuffs around my own wrists if I was responsible for that level of destruction. And the dispersant. OH THE DISPERSANT. How the guys responsible for those decisions are OK with themselves is quite boggling (QB) to me...

The worst / best part about hearing all this earlier is that my friend is this ragingly mean catholic asian jew girl (I don't know how it's possible either, I think she was born to a jewish mom, then raised catholic) and she "fucking hates hippies" so I had to bite my tongue while she was saying all this lest I give my dirty socialist leanings away

anyway it isn't really a fwp, more a first world boggling, just thought i'd share, cheers.

I was thinking about this the other day. The problem with that plan would be that they're all egotistical sociopaths. So would without everyone else around to dull their impact. They would set about pretty quickly, destroying one another, and so the remnents of humanity.

One of my neighbours across the street once stabbed a man to death when he came home and found that guy shagging his wife. He only served about two years in jail.
