Fun/Stupid bank story ----

Wow, so big name banks are taking cannabis industry deposits?? That's huge news to me. Is it because you guys are a nonprofit?

I honestly couldn't tell you! I was in there for 3 hours between the lawyers and bullshit. The irony of this is Uncle Sam still wants his bite for taxes, and we have to pay. It was a debacle.

maybe he shouldn't have mentioned the story because the media has been going on about how the banks won't take the money for fear of federal law for ages. Maybe the thought of missing out on all that money has chipped away at their resolve. Whatever happened it's unusual like you said, at least perhaps to those of us not on the ground.

There's a reason I didn't name the bank. Let's just say, the best money launderers are the ones who operate in plain sight and with little to no legal consequence.

Alright, so this is kind of weird --my friend's coworker (front desk, hotel) went to jail many years ago, for a couple reasons, one of which was stealing three puppies at gunpoint from someone who was selling them on craigslist. So yesterday I knew she was going to be working with him and joked that she should bring in some puppies, announce she was selling them, and see what happens. She obviously didn't. But turns out she didn't have to, because one of the hotel guests walked in with 3 puppies while they were working, and announced she was selling them! Needless to say my friend was a bit unnerved by how much he was fawning over them. After the guest leaves, he simply states "I love puppies." Heheh, yeah, so we read... I'm kind of uneasy about my friend working with this guy, as it's just the two of them, during the night shift, and he has a history of violence and suffers from PTSD. I am however looking forward to some good work stories. This guy's past is fucking insane.

Fuuuuuuu

My internship might be in jeopardy because of a conviction for theft under $1000 (the actual amount was less than $150) that happened more than 20 years ago that I thought had been pardoned. Turned out it hadn't.

Fuck my life.

Highly doubtful. My only hope is that because I paid the fine instead of serving time I will be cleared. It's fucking stupid, because all I'm really guilty of here is not ensuring the pardon was taken care of to ensure they never found out if committed a crime. Which is ridiculous to me.

20 fucking years ago. This is the kind of thing gives rich kids with good lawyers the advantage if they fuck up in the adolescence. I mean bush got to be the figurehead for an whole country. Just keep chipping away at it chen, i hope that it's alright.

also zephyr that puppy story is insane! maybe the original owner was abusive and wouldn't give them up?

Nah, they were trying to sell them and he went to their house with a gun and was like "give me your puppies if you don't wanna die!" I made up that quote, but the rest of it is essentially how it went down. They were presumably some rare breed of dog going for a lot of money. The same week he shot some middle aged lady in the hip. Dude's hardcore.

Chen - mind explaining the original theft story here? I'm curious, and you know we ain't gonna judge for it.

Oh I was young and stupid, and I worked at a big retail chain here, saw some fancy bicycle pedals that had obviously been sat in the back for yonks and figured no one would be the wiser. Put them in my bag one day and store security was on me like a hawk when I left work that day.

Stupid fuck - who knew that $120 bike pedals would bite me in the ass this hard.

What country/jurisdiction did you commit the infraction in? I believe in a lot of places it's possible for an offender (particularly if you were a juvie at the time) to get shit like that expunged from your record provided you've been clean since. Could also be like delet described where only those with access to high priced lawyers can take advantage of such schemes.

Canada, and yes it is possible to get it pardoned (I was 19 at the time, so no juvie). I thought it had already been pardoned, as I had done crim record checks before with no issues. It's not too expensive, so I'll get it done, but my fear is that if I don't get this position, I will be flagged in the government HR system as unhirable....

i didn't know where to put this but i love this article

i know there are states and countries where driving whilst making a phone call is banned, but in los angeles, this isn't the case (or it's not enforced at all) and i can honestly say i've seen not only an increase in minor accidents (people running into another car, making a turn at the wrong time etc.) because someone was on the phone, but i think it contributes to the already terrible traffic (which btw, is really from bad drivers).

i think for most people bad driving means they drive terribly right? in los angeles, bad driving means they drive too slow. so many people here cruise looking for something to do/see or someone to see/hopefully run into etc. or they're simply exploring so they never drive with a destination in mind. add to this the people updating their facebook and twitter whilst driving and you suddenly create more traffic with people driving super slow- going nowhere, missing lights, running into each other or riding your ass.

there is another syndrome which i have diagnosed as "sitting in the car" syndrome. whereas this would be considered "loitering" or "suspect behavior" in los angeles (perhaps because there is a huge car culture) it's actually normal to see a bunch of people parked and just sitting in their cars for hours (i'm talking 4-8hrs) dodding on their phones or just staring

I set a trap for the fruitflies that have been populating my kitchen of late. As of an hour ago there were 8 of them in there, and I was pleased with how well the trap was working. So I got to making my pasta dinner, turned back to the trap and low and behold 5 of them had escaped! I think perhaps the saran wrap got too loose after I moved it to get it out of my cat's reach. God damn.

My other problem is that while prepping dinner I was listening to Ceephax Acid Crew on my iPod, which kept stopping randomly with a static "tick sound" --this must have happened 10 times. WTF!! I'm so irritated right now.... anyone know what might cause an iPod to stop randomly like that? It works fine most of the time, but once it starts stopping randomly like this it keeps doing it until I take a break from listening (of a few hours+). I have the worst luck with portable music devices. I had to stop using my discman because it stopped functioning altogether. I had to stop using my smart phone for mp3s because it constantly interrupted my listening with a female voice going "say a command". So I finally caved and got an iPod, now this bullshit. Why doesn't anything work?

Is it designed to pause the music when the headphone is unplugged? Perhaps you keep tugging on the cable as you are moving around which is tugging on the jack kicking in this function. (i know fuck all about ipods so don't take this as gospel, we had an mp3 player thread dude, you should have just bought something recommended in there. second hand even. ;-p)

Also.

Not as irritated as you would have been had you continued listening to ceephax acid crew. :emotawesomepm9:
