Golden orb weavers are the only species I've seen that look like that.

I feel like the Australians of watmm are laughing at us. They are comfortable with spiders bigger than your hand, but still not comfortable with black peoples. What a world

;)

Not that we get anything other than show spiders in the UK, but they do all get rid of moths and flys which are fucking annoying, so they're friends in my book.

:doge: Jet fuel can't melt dank memes :doge:

I like most spiders over here that live outside, not the kind that live in my house, giant house spiders completely gross me out and I have to kill them on sight. I find wee jumping spiders pretty cute, and like garden spiders too - they've got cool patterns on them.

I remember bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, etc scared me more than spiders when I was a kid. Spiders are slow and mainly like to hang out in one spot, while anything that flies and stings can attack you whenever they want. But I think all of these critters are more territorial than they are predatory towards humans.

(probably should've started a separate insects/arachnids thread, but that'd be redundant at this point)

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

you have to watch those silent people, always trying to trick you with their silence

idgaf about any bugs tbh. We get wasps flying in my flat all time from the roof (attic flat). I smack them back out the window with my hand.

Spiders got nothing on roaches. Had a roommate who made me kill every single one of them she found.

Hehe my work is crawling with roaches, they all go running and zigzagging in your wake when you walk to the toilet. The ones in the office, I stick post-it notes to their backs for lols.

a dog would never do that ;)

it might puke on your bed, lick most of it up, so you dont clock the ming for a few mins until you're nice & comfortable....

Totally not true. Had a dog once shit all over the bed while we were out for a couple of hours. Stupid fucking creature had eaten something out of the trash and gotten diarrhea.

omf I saw one of those last time I was in Japan too. I wasn't even in the woods, I was walking down the sidewalk on a fairly busy day. Somehow nobody saw this fucking monster floating up there. (shudder)

Lately I've been sleeping like 5 hours a night. Been trying to ride my bike more often, but it doesn't do much to tire me out enough to get a good night's rest  :catnope:

for me sleep quality is a function of a few controllable variables:

1) energy expenditure - working out to some extent throughout the day including a session of stretching

2) light exposure - turning off lights around the house at least an hour before bed. Limiting or blocking exposure to pc's or phones by turning them off or wearing tinted glasses while I wind down.

3) how recently I've eaten - can't sleep if I'm hungry but apparently you dont want to eat after 10pm and cutting off food by 7-8 is best.

4) supplementation - I take melatonin and magnesium and it helps a lot. other things like nighty night tea help too. Epsom salt baths close to bed time help a lot.

5) mental state - I use headspace to do a 10 minute meditation session and it calms me down a great deal.

6) not drinking alcohol

Anyway, if I pay attention to those things sleeping is pretty easy for me.

Thanks for the tips. I already do most of those, though. It's mostly stress that's keeping me up. I get the feeling things will subside in the next month and a half, hopefully.

The I'd highly suggest doing the 10 min of headspace. It really winds me down. Throwing on some good ambient during is nice as well.

I forgot to mention that making sure your sleeping environment is as dark as possible is also a good move for uninterrupted sleep
