I've played many a beta where the games had been in development for less than a third of the amount of time as Diablo 3 has, by less than a quarter of the team members, that never actually locked up into one frame screenshot while combat is rolling for 6 seconds.

...................But dear lord even though It would completely lock up for 6 seconds every 3 minutes while baddies could still hit me, I never died and only had to use 4 health potions total for the new classes I beat the beta with (and I probably only actually needed to use one potion at most each character to not die)

 

Why the fuck did they make it so boringly easy???

 

AND lets not be naive little changes from beta to final release, it's been in closed beta for a long while, this open beta is only a stress test for their servers really. Hell the release build has probably already gone gold.

I'm still not sure what to think about this new gameplay. First I was thinking it's too simplified if you compare to Diablo II, but on a second thought I think it might be way deeper than it looks.

 

The big difference between Diablo II and III is that you can now use six capacities in the same time (practically, you can do that in Diablo II as well using shortcuts but in the end you don't ; ok, I didn't) . It's disturbing not to have the choice of a skill when you level up, but I think the customisation of you character will depend on how you combine your six active skills, and that could possibly make a lot of gameplay choices.

 

The art of the game is 100% gorgeous for me (I love the lights and the atmosphere they created). The sound also seems awesome.

 

Plus the combats are obviously ground-breaking. Blasting full groups of monsters with the barbarian might be the funnier video game experience I had in a long time, and I've never been a fan of that character in D2. That's true the beginning seems to be extremely easy and it kinda frustrated me, but I hope the difficulty will raise reasonably after Act I.

 

Also, I hope they'll make a good thing out of that really different gameplay. Because indeed it could be very crappy if they don't take a true advantage of that 6 skills in the same time thing.

 

For me it's too soon to judge this game, but my first impression is more likely "very good". Even if Blizzard is probably not what it was some years ago, they're still chiefs in terms of gameplays and I still want to trust them.

 

Hope I won't regret it !

I finally checked it out this morning for about 30 minutes before the servers went down. Quite enjoyable, pretty easy as mentioned and I too was disappointed by the lack of any deep skill tree decisions. It's hard to judge a game on just 30 minutes of a beta run-through but I'm really looking forward to this game now.

from what I read, the open beta where you beat the skeleton king is 1/3 of act 1. And on normal difficulty. It's a basic tutorial for new players to the Diablo series. As is most of the entire game on normal difficulty. The panel below explains that 70% of the game items, enhancements, etc don't even show up until you up the difficulty to nightmare, hell, inferno.

I wanted to mention that typical network code like this still allows the game to generate graphical buffers because using TCP packets are being exchanged with important data while UDP is being exchanged with animation updates. If your entire game frooze to 1 frame per 6 seconds, this is a graphics card issue and not networking. If it truely happened to all 3 of your friends at the same time, and your voice chat was not bogged down as well, then this implies that all three of you suffered some sort of networking overflow that consumed all 3 of your top end gaming computer resources. Personally I believe you are stretching the truth a bit.

 

Also wanted to mention that the internet only works as fast as how busy it is. Are you trying to play the beta at 6-8pm on a weekday?

I was not reffering the freeze problem as specifically a network code fuck up but just a general fuck up, I saw monsters lag around a few times, spells didn't seem very responsive at times. No our voice chat never cut up, should not have been any reason why our bandwidth was compromised from what I could see, I play them a lot and they have 50mb cable, I have 10mb cable more than 1mb of cable should me more than enough for a game like....... People played Diablo 2 with 28.8k connections with 4 player Coop............

 

If it's a graphics card, CPU, or RAM, problem.. again, that's fucking embarassing for how unimpressive this game looks technically and how shit house unoptimized the game would have to be stressing out our systems so hard it locks up for 6 seconds that often. That's unacceptable, low frame rates? Okay that would make sense, it should be more optimized but I guess even low framerates are playable but freezing up completely? That's not something that should ever happen from a AAA title even with computers with 6 times less power than ours have. The freeze problem I mostly dealing with more so in one game and my friends had it less often then but they all said they had dealt with it previously just as bad as I did.

Really disappointed with the way skills ended up. D2 had a lot of replay value because you could always devise a new build or idea and put it through the paces. This version almost feels like WoW Lite. I suppose it promotes people to try and attain max cap but what a boring lot for people who like Hardcore mode, grinding the same path of progression every time they die.

 

Still had a blast playing through all the classes this weekend though. Cool graphics, nice atmosphere.

i wasn't following its development and completely forgot about it until today and i realized that, holy shit, this is coming out in two days !

and nothing makes me happier than pc exclusive games.

 

but then i completely lost all the boners after realizing that it's practically uncrackable and it costs 60 bucks. fuck you blizzard, this game is gonna sell tens of millions of copies, make it fucking more affordable, i already gave you a couple of hundreds of dollars via wow. fuck this shit, seriously.

I'm looking forward to playing it, mostly because I'm going to running through it with friends on skype and the Demon Hunter was awesome in that open beta.

I've never played a Diablo game.

I've got my installer waiting! I'm really excited about playing. The game looked really boring from youtube videos that I watched, but the open beta weekend changed my mind all together. I think that this will be a very fun game.

This will be my first Diablo experience. I have faith in Blizzards games.

Kaen, I'd go for it, but I believe that you have to enter your region when you log in the first time as accurate as possible, and you are gonna select Europe and I'm going to select North America. I'll exchange Real ID's with you if we can work around the zoning restriction, but I think we SOL.

I'm psyched for this I've been a Diablo fanboy since my days of being in a player-killer clan in Diablo 1... I think the streamlined feel of the skill tree may end up being deeper than it appeared in the demo, and may force you to choose the active skills wisely. Also as was mentioned, supposedly the open beta was only part of Act 1 which leads me to believe this game will be massive compared to the acts of Diablo 2. I had a lot of fun playing as the witch doctor. As I don't want to spoil too much for myself I've avoided most of the trailers, but I hear there is a new power that seeks to overthrow Diablo to battle in this game as well (wraith?). Also I've heard speculation that perhaps Tyriel will be corrupted in the course of the game and end up being a pretty epic boss battle. Can't wait to play through.
