i dont know if im living in a hole, or emotionally dead inside, but am i the only one who thinks that lots of electronic music coming out in the last few years totally sucks?! its so boring! it seems to me that most new stuff coming out is just shitty recycling of old concepts, boring digital fuckery of beats and sounds, or amateur compositions that sound like fourteen year old kids discovering fruity loops. often it sounds like the artist is hardly even trying. is that supposed to be something cool, or do these people secretly hate good music or something? i dont know, maybe im crazy, but ive seriously been really disappointed in the state of electronic music as of late. without getting into specifics, i can simply say that some of the featured artists on this website have released lots of really average music over the years, and ill eat my hat if im the only one here that thinks that. not only that, some of the most popular labels spouted about on this forum have led me to constant disappointment, and ultimately a loss of interest in the label itself. you know who you are...you bastard(s)

allow me to share some releases i have enjoyed over the last few years. in no order... the massive attack / burial release was fucking amazing. can people start making music this good all the time, or do we have for another forever? maybe its not even coming! i was loving jody kendrick when it came out, same with com truise. fuck, this is actually difficult for me to even come up with releases that really hit me, only furthering my point that this stuff sucks now. even some of my favorite artists who i grew up with and loved, seem to just release really kind of average music. seriously...is this a thing now? not caring? that movement hit rock music decades ago, and i either missed that part about electronic music, or we are entering into a hell zone the likes of which nobody has ever seen

stop making shitty average electronic music! if you do, please dont release it! stop wasting wasting everyones fucking time you tricksters

if steinvord sucks im starting my own label and its going to kick ass

You're not looking/listening hard enough.

if i have to listen to another man fail at making great electronic music, i think im going to cry. why do you hate me? why are you making me cry?

More people are making it. Its easier to show it off. So its only natural that a lot of its shite.

You'd only hear the good stuff way back when.

of course it gets hard when you have pitchfork, factmag, residentadvisor, the wire, the quietus, xlr8r, plus 1000 other music websites which mostly are here to hype stuff and might accidentally get a bit pretentious on telling what's good, what's bad, what you should listen to, what you should avoid. it's all up to you, to be selective. for each 10 shit records being released, there is 1 that is probably very good. go for that one

i know i went a bit off the handle. i wanted to. i want to continue to go off the proverbial handle. people need to start realizing this shit. remember all the hate, misunderstanding, and neglect electronic music received over the years. if this bullshit continues, they win, and have a damn good reason to shun the whole genre. i myself has listened to shit loads of rock over the last year, and that was fucking unusual. we all heard the shit from the 90s. its brilliant, i know. the early part of the century also had some really brilliant stuff. then we got towards the end of the decade. it was like 90% of artists died inside, and the remaining 10% just fucking killed it like i cant believe

im not saying i cant find good electronic music. i can. i make most of the music i listen to anyway. all im saying here, is im really tired of this average electronic music, and i wish more people would be driven to release better music. rephlex is always good, theres another label though (you know...) that has been the bane of my electronic pursuit, and fuck it for that. i respect the shit out of every human being on this planet, even the evil ones, but i think there should be space for people like me to say things like, "man, i really like your label, i think you've released lots of great stuff, but fuck, sometimes you suck at picking artists and allowing albums". im not gonna bow down and pray to every IDM god that wants everyone to hear their latest 12" full of trash

sorry if im a negative bastard right now. im drunk, tired, and pissed off. if the next few big electronic releases disappoint me, i quit. ill start listening to beiber, i dont give a fuck. or maybe ill just use melodyne dna to remix every release that pisses me off, and make it 10x better, just to prove a point, and im not even the type of person who likes to make a point

yeah

for fucks sake people im listening to modest mouse right now and loving it! help!

If you're liking it why would you want to stop listening? I have a feeling lots of the reasons you don't like most electronic music is secretly based upon "It's too popular" ideals.

personally I think electronic music became a little samey when everyone started spending too much time behind laptops

with so many (if not too many) options its all to easy to fall into whats already familiar instead of adapting to the limitations of a machine or instrument in your own way , this is where creativity, innovation and happy accidents thrive

Most of my electronic music on my library is from the 90's so yeah i kind of agree with ET here.

Also The Tuss, fucking modern and fucking good.

Go to the watmm top albums of 2011 poll. Listen to everything. If you don't find one album that you consider good then there's something wrong with you.

i already mentioned more than once in this thread that i can find good electronic music, i even mentioned one that was in that poll, im aware of it. my point is that life is too short too waste on this really average electronic music that is always being pushed in our face. aphex twin was like going to school again for me. i hate that im bringing him up in this, everyone knows about afx, but i just cant get over it, even after all this time.....its so fucking good. and that to me is a standard that i think more people need to acknowledge. to be quite frank, part of the reason ive never released my music, is because its not as good as aphex twin. im not trying to sound like aphex twin, but god damnit im going to try to make music that good, and im going to try to make music that actually makes me feel real emotions

its been over a decade now...wheres my new drukqs? it just doesnt exist...and i cant believe it

maybe im crazy...

heres the deal. ive been thinking about this for a couple years now. some of you fucking kill it. i love you for that. i may or may not have a funding mechanism for a label i want to start. the premise of the label, is to only release really amazing electronic music. many have done this, i feel though that many have failed. we wont fuck up. if something isnt as good as we want it to be, it simply doesnt get released. its amazing how many labels cant seem to wrap their heads around that concept

i may be able to offer funding for the pressing of around 100 records or so, maybe more if its really good, to be mailed out and sent to shops, event organizers, and friends. im not promising anything. at first we need really good music, lets just focus on that. then well start thinking about pressing records and whatnot. dont get excited, i probably wont think your music is good enough, and im not asking you to impress me, please dont try, but read my lips when i say, if you make really good electronic music that i fall in love with, consider 100 + records pressed and shipped around europe. just sayin

so when do we get this electronic masterpiece you promised us you were going to make about a year ago?

No ET I think over the years your ear drums have taken a beating and you now have a natural chorus effect being applied to every electronic music you hear. That is way they all sound alike and like shit.
