I always feel sorry for people that find most music shit, that must suck.

I think some people just like complaining. I think you will find in the 90's a lot of people were sat round proclaiming how shit music was lol.

LOL at thinking aphex twin is the be all and end all of music.

it is kinda LOL, but Rushup edge did still destroy the shit out of most other electronic music

while i would agree that nothing can compare to 90ies electronic music (incl. me young & stuff being so fresh cause "musical sheet was blank") i found some new stuff in the last days that really kicked me. having time and digging yourself is quite important id say though. and maybe a broad taste.

f.e. this:

http://www.discogs.c...es/master/22814

on the harder tip:

and if thats not hard enough the second track here (starts at 4.40)

plus... flying lotus, leyland kirby, ssaliva (check the new one on vlek), africa hitech (some), the exaltics (some)

if youre in the late 20ies it may have got to do with you getting older. i know that. it comes back (some).

lone, odan, ochre, kuedo, endless house foundation, sepalcure, machinedrum, th'idiot, steinvord, dave monolith...I can keep going. This is all shit?

A lot of people are experiencing musical gluttony.

There's so much music out there, and it's so easily accessible that no one's hungry for anything.

We're also comparing anything new with the best of the last several decades of popular music.

These kind threads are to be expected. It's the age we live in.

Maybe YOU just don't like techno any more.

I most certainly do.

My post was in response to the original post and thread as a whole, not your post.

I love music, I love contemporary music. Also why worry about what's contemporary? So much good music from any era, just find what you like and stay away from what you dont. Stop being a little inspecific bitch.

I agree 100%

I can look at most of my cd/vinyl collection and feel I earnt it, and respect it.

Some kid just downloading 1000's of free tunes to fill up a hard drive is never going to feel the same sort of apprecation I do for my record collection. Never.

also: How does one get 11,489 plays and 190 comments on a soundcloud track in 4 months?

Oh please. I have collected many records, CDs, and cassettes over the years and I still listen to the mp3s of those same albums more often. If the physical format makes you feel good about yourself, then fine - but to say that your appreciation for the music is undoubtedly always higher than someone who doesn't own the records is beyond ridiculous. Don't kid yourself, billygoat. *rimshot*

depends on the medium id say. if you listen to a track on a superlimited, colored 15-year-old 10inch that was financed by selling lsd you appreciate it more than a mp3. kind of.

You don't see it? I'd quote it for you, but it's right there.

Just because someone downloads large amounts of music in batches does not mean they fail to appreciate many of the albums after they spend time with them. I occasionally download discographies of bands that I love (and whose records I have no realistic chance of owning), and it takes me a while to sift through those albums, but after I do, I contend that there is no difference between the appreciation I feel for those albums and the appreciation that paying for a pressing of the album would have brought me.

That said, I do agree that there is more music available now than ever before, and that over-saturation can be a real problem. Restraint from that sort of behavior is the solution IMO. It has nothing to do with owning the physical albums.

depends on the person, I'd say. I may be in the minority here, but I can still appreciate the cultural history of some particular music without having the physical history in my hands. Needless to say, autographs and history museums have never interested me much.

I understood you the first time. I just disagree and can't be bothered to tell you why I feel this way, it's just how I feel. Now let's get over it.

I like album packaging, but I also look at it as an artform unto itself, which should have no real bearing on how the music itself is perceived.
