RIP CLARK

2001-2006

I'd take it through Totems Flare, but yeah, if I wanted to listen to Iradelphic, I'd listen to the other 100 albums that sound 95% like it that have been around for years.

I liked Clark because of his unique, aggressive sound. When I first heard Com Touch, I hoped it'd be one of the softer tracks on the album. Nope, it's actually the grittiest, most aggressive thing on there, save 30 seconds of The Pining Pt.2 or whatever (by the way, Pt. 3 is the same bullshit soft pointlessness he puts at the end of every other good track, not sure why it needed to be a new track here).

If this were a Bibio album, it wouldn't even be a good Bibio album. Might as well give Bibio a subforum now.

It's kind of sad, honestly--dude spends 3 years kicking around in the bush or whatever the fuck "finding himself," and that's what he found? It's also sad from a selfish, he-obviously-doesn't-owe-us-anything point of view, because any thoughts of Clark becoming/continuing to be one of the few active IDM innovators are completely gone. He's not the "Warp wunderkind" anymore; he's just a guy making boring pseudo-trendy guitar music.

I can understand people getting beefed about a change in direction but it's just not fair to slate something a few hours after it leaks. That's just not enough time to process anything properly. Gonna give this one a good chance - Clark deserves it.

Wow. I haven't heard the album yet and everyone has the right to not like it. But you're going to write him off completely and assume he can never make anything good again? Come on. Most artists have ups and down, bit unfair to just assume everything he'll do from now on won't be to your liking, no?

Sure, it's possible he'll return to what I consider to be form. It's not "unfair" to assume whatever I want, because Clark could not possibly give a shit what I'm assuming in my small little corner of the world. Stupid and reactionary? Yes, it's that. I'm comfortable being stupid and reactionary when my favorite electronic artist abandons everything I liked about him. You can make as many zen statements about that as you like.

Can you give me the names of those 100 albums, minus the Bibio ones of course. Thanks!

This album is an amazing feat of interesting engineering and melodies. I dont know why everyone wants their favorite artists to repeat themselves, this album is amazing to me (but I also love Bibio and Boards of Canada). I've never heard an album like this in my life, and everyone saying it sounds similar to something else is only saying this because it has guitar in it. I mean this is seriously a very unique feeling album in mood and creation, I just wish it wasnt so short!

Honestly it just seems like people into IDM cannot take warmth in music.

Personally, i LOVEEE old Bibio - before he started integrating like Indie Rock / Pop / Hip Hop into his sound - like pretty much before he got on Warp and switched up his sound. If the new clark album sounds like old Bibio - I'd probably like it.

I am a huge Mush era Bibio fan as well. But this Clark stuff sounds like Warp Era Bibio

Body riddle, turning dragon, and totems flare were a trilogy. While it may not set well with everyone, it takes alot of balls to go in a completely different direction. I did talk to Clark via social networking and he plans to release "new new and old new material" this year. So it's all good

Yep same opinion here, he had a lot of balls and thats what a real artits does IMO, He goes the direction he wants and feels like, and sometimes touches something unique.

Some really negative reactions in this thread but I'm liking his use of guitar a lot. I think the idea of guitars and "IDM" being mutually exclusive is something that people need to get out of their heads because I bet there's a lot of uncharted territory there and if it sounds good then bring it.

uuh. clark is not moving it any further than plaid or boards of canada. or bibio. point being, he is not going into any "uncharted territory".

i feel like the only electronic act that's not using guitars as a postrock/folk backdrop is rustie.
