This album is as bad as everyone says it is, and I love it. I wasn't going to buy it, but now thanks to the leak I'm going to. Moral of the story: if you have a chance to leak something, do it

its just not that introverted idm some people like here but instead danceable easy to consume stuff. I am ok with that

To the people who are hating, what exactly DO you want from Squarepusher? More of the same jungle breakfuckery, just like he did 10+ years ago? Or would you complain about that as well?

this is precisely the question that comes to my mind when i see all the hate for pop oriented pusher. but i don't bother asking it anymore on old often rotten watmm

The album just isn't as consistent for me as I would have hoped for but I really gotta let it rest and whatnot before I can fully assert my views on it. I definitely continue to look forward to more squarepusher and am fully supportive of his own personal creative choices.

Ultravisitor is my favorite album by him because its consistency is not necessarily in style or quality of tracks, but atmosphere. Every time I listen it manages to give me this punk-idm impression that is so in tune with Squarepushers spastic on stage qualities that it just feels like I am listening to the entire progression of life to madness to death.... its quite alien to me and therefore there is nothing else quite like it. This one hasn't yet given me a full coherent impression that makes me really appreciate it more as an album, rather than a bunch of tracks.

Haha yeah, I actually prefer what he's put out in the last 10 years to what came before. Go Plastic got my attention, Ultravisitor was fascinating, and everything since then has just got me more and more excited for new stuff.

I agree Mr. Modey... I'm not sure what everyone expects. But in terms of consistency, I believe this album is pretty solid. It flows well overall.

The guy has already made his contribution to music, and continues to experiment with different style. He is unique, and a true artist in that sense. The interview talking about fearlessness was quite inspirational.

Different strokes, I suppose. Just wish that the comments would be less critical at the offset. You have to let music marinate sometimes. The more I listen to a Squarepusher album, the more I love it. I feel like those who dismiss it aren't giving it a proper chance.

Critiques are also fine, but I hate "this sucks because it doesn't meet my expectation" arguments.

I cannot fathom how people think this is Squarepusher selling out to sell loads of records to deadmau5 and Skrillex fans.

This is a weird, distinctly uncool sounding album whose aesthetics are a mix of late 90's IDM glitches(pre Go Plastic), figure skating anthems, and 80's fantasy movies.

I'm pretty sure your average Skrillex fan will not be throwing Energy Wizard into their iTunes playlist.

This, pretty much. It's much more abrasive and less pop-friendly than brostep. Even the trance style synths and the 'drops' are covered with the usual Squarepusher fuckery.

Also, listening to some of the synth work in this, I'm wondering if he used some kind of MIDI pickup on his bass for some of it. Some of the basslines are pretty fucking freeform.

You can also hear those jazzy baselines, which are great. He probably did use his bass at some points.
