Based on what are you assuming WARP purchased the BoC back catalogue?

yep, I read it in an interview on BoC pages, one of the Sandisons confirmed that WARP had bought their back catalogue. Though how much of it, wasn't explained.

Hmmm. I don't recall that. I'll have to look that up.

That might explain why financially they haven't needed to release anything in the past 5 years...

I'm guessing neither of these is enough to support them

Does last.fm pay royalties to the artists it plays?

nope.

With each year they did not release the back catalogue, it was less and less possible CD sales. Now that the CD medium is forgotten, every label understood that reality and rushed to put out every possible back catalogue material of their artists available. I

t's useless to release it anymore, sales will be too low to make a profit out of it. WARP wussed out. I can bet that for the same popularity of the group, there's 10% sales today of a "Bocset" compared to if they did ten years ago in 2002.

no it's not useless. cds still do allright. plus the money is in digital sales and overpriced vinyl. drop in sales affected major labels way more than indie-majors like warp, 4ad or matador for that matter. to be honest, i think numbers increased compared to 2002, with all the hipsterism, vinyl elitarism and general awareness of things.

How can sales of something that doesn't exist (a formal acknowledgement by WARP to release BoC's back catalogue) decrease?

You're right that sales of CDs is dwindling, but when it comes to special edition or boxsets, they tend to do quite well, as evidenced by WARP having to do two runs of Squarepusher's Ufabulum deluxe vinyl due to demand.

A BoCset would do fine if packaged and marketed correctly, and digital sales would do quite well, especially if there were literally hundreds of tracks to choose from.

I don't think they'll release anything like that because that's not what the band is interested in putting out musically - they've moved on from that era and it's the fans who crave this stuff since they've never heard it before, while BoC's had it around all these years.

dunno about that last point, they seem quite comfortable pillaging their old material and incorporating it into new tracks. Like that old tunes track being warped into 747.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

... to create something new, similar, but different slightly from the original material. You can find lots of OT reworkings in their current discography, so yes, they're not ignorant of their past, but I'm doubtful we'll see direct releases of that material as-is (was).

In short, you're probably not going to see an Acid Memories EP released, but we may see modern versions of tracks from that era. For all we know, we already have...

It would be interesting to see what, if any correlation last.fm plays equate to album sales. Just because people are listening to it doesn't always mean they're buying music.

it means there is an active fanbase and these are buying customers.

I thick that they would have used DAC for for some of their earlier recordings. I wonder if they are that bad they are embarrased to release them? I would love to hear them. For me, I'll give them 4 more years, then I will concider them a "dead" band.

Will that involve apples?

most releases end up under his "Christ." moniker.

Heres a good track of his.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFCoFNhT1XI

this track is better than most BoC stuff, imho.

I attempted to go through the entire interview section on bocpages to find the source of the WARP buying all the early material from BoC, I had a quick look at the list of interviews and capitulated. For a band who don't say much there is suprisingly a bit to read. I just couldn't be arsed lol.

Anyway false rumours are usually shot down pretty quickly, and that hasn't happened, so I presume its gospel.

I think it might be in the "things MDG has said" section or whatever, as I don't think WARP nor BoC have stated this "officially" as in a press release or interview.

Checking back the statements from MDG- he hasn't said something now for months. I don't know folks, but I'm pretty tired to wait for any news regarding any new activities. Maybe there is something to come maybe not.

I cut back my hopes for anything BOC-related. The surprise would be bigger when we have something new from them.
