I think nobody's normal here, so why should the admin be? He's probably the sickest dude around here. I bet he did coke and heroin back in his days.

Erm, you're really going a bit overboard with this - and you will not slander me on my own forum. Don't do it again.

Well that answer sure gave me a clearer insight.

Fine I won't, but I still laughed irl at your serious business.

Laugh all you want, but I'm not going to sit here and have some little shit who's been around here all of a few months come here and slander me. You know fuck all about me, and for you to insinuate otherwise shows you clearly have your head up your own ass.

9 out of 10 people? You're taking surveys or something? It's silly for you to assume that your beliefs/feelings are shared by a overwhelming majority of people - if what you are assuming was true, why haven't droves of people left, off to find refuge on the other forums out there?

I think that was a joke, although I could be wrong.

edit:

Also, can this not turn into a flame war? I always thought that the best way to respond to someone being a jackass was to ignore it. The claims against you are taken too far, Joyrex, but you're an admin; it's to be expected. I would think that an admin/mod would be the best at handling this kind of thing.

Then again, what do I know about forum-ing? I've never been an admin or mod and I'd probably fuck it up pretty bad; you're probably doing a million times better than I ever could. Been here for 2 months and have 1000 posts, clearly I'm kind of an idiot.

If you think the discussion was ill-suited for watmm, given the focus you want watmm to have, then that's one thing, but it seems a bit unnecessary that you were morally criticizing a member for expressing feelings of lust for someone other than his wife.

I was not aware of this, really well-put.

Agreed.

I'm guessing the "9 out of 10 don't like the direction this site is going in" statement is in reference to members who have been on the site long enough to know what it was like in the past. If you consider the opinions of newly joined members as equally or moreso relevant than long-term mainstays...okay.

I'll have a go at most people. No one else has the power to delete it though.

Dont think its ever been personal though, cause I dont know anything about most of yee.

As for Fred McGriff: He left voluntarily (he had to ask several times for me to deactivate his account, in fact) - I never asked him to leave, and the whole ruckus was over his disagreeing with my moderation and censorship of topics and threads that I felt were contrary to the new rules on the forum, as well for the comment I made towards him about what his wife must think of his threads concerning his lusting over the wine store girl (and FYI - the first thread was closed because again, some of you took things too far and decided to take Fred's basis for what he considered a good subject for discussion and went into NSFW territory which violated the rules) in response to a swipe he took at me in the Funny Pictures thread implying that the GIF I posted of a guy getting a bulldozer's worth of water dumped on him as something I culled off "America's Funniest Home Videos" and how family-friendly it was. I never mentioned his family, and my own personal feeling (especially in retrospect) was that I gave him food for though, despite his claims his wife is alright with him (disrespecting her, as I see it, and I wonder if she is/was aware of what he's posted on WATMM) making threads about how he sees other women. I'm not going to go into it more or voice any more opinions on the matter since it's not fair due to Fred not being able to respond in kind. Despite our differences on that matter, I always found Fred to be a funny, engaging member of the forums, and while right now honestly I'm not sorry to see him go, perhaps in time him and I can come to terms over things and he can go back to the McGriff most here have praised.

I hope that I do not get banned for saying this. It is your forum (a great forum that I enjoy very much), and you certainly can make whatever rules you want. I can understand arguments for removing the porn. I can also somewhat understand the arguments for removing discussion of sex.

But I don't see the point of tut tutting over the way Fred lusted after a woman who was not his wife. Lots of people are cool with their partner sleeping with other people, let alone lusting after them. You cannot take it for granted that his posts were disrespectful to his wife at all. If you think the discussion was ill-suited for watmm, given the focus you want watmm to have, then that's one thing, but it seems a bit unnecessary that you were morally criticizing a member for expressing feelings of lust for someone other than his wife.

I wouldn't ban anyone over reasonably voicing their opinion - however, I hardly think it's the norm for any committed, married couple to be "cool" over their partner sleeping with someone else - I'm not sure where you are getting your examples from. And I would offer that since we are not aware if Fred's wife is/is not aware of what he posts online, it's an equally wrong assumption to assume she's aware, let alone OK with it. I think it would be safe to assume the vast majority of people here are not married or in any long-term relationships (there's a joke about WATMM in there somewhere, I know), so perhaps my reasoning is being lost in the process.

having a go at a forum member for talking about simply seeing a sexy girl working in a wine shop is abit fuckin weird man.

As I said, I took an (admittedly) low shot at Fred in response to what he said to me - he's the one who decided to throw his toys out of the pram and go home.

What about me? Isn't it a bit fucking weird how so many people seem to think because I'm the Admin here, it's all right to insult and slander me, my children, wife, life, age, likes/dislikes? Nobody seems to rush to my defense when I'm being attacked, do they? Of course they don't - it's fun to thumb your nose at authority and see if you get away with it. What do you have to say about that?

i would never dream of taking the piss out of your family, or even really acknowledge it atall, i keep my opinions (and therefore pisstaking) of people solely on the posts they make on here.

I just have to shake my head and laugh every time someone accuses me of making this site 'family friendly' or that I have some religious slant, or I'm "out to destroy the forum" bullshit - all I did was change the rules so NSFW/adult material and overtly sexual conversations were no longer part of WATMM, like they were long ago, before I lost focus on what the whole point of this site was about - electronic music, and sharing our thoughts and passions about said electronic music.

When 9 people out of 10 say that you're destroying the community, maybe you should not laugh but think about it?

Everyone keeps talking about the golden age of WATMM, but was it really as good as everyone says? I mean, Fred leaving sucks*, but was it really that great back then?

*Not that I knew him much, but he still sounds cool. Anyone care to post his avatar? I don't pay attention to names.

For me the golden days were about a year or so ago, when hathathat, sup and maximus weren't banned and you could post tits without fear and luke via was still posting and top posters were not gmanyo or stepheng. But I can imagine it was even better erlier with other people that got banned.

I've got Google Analytics and VigLink Affiliate Revenues that prove since the changes, things have gotten better - in terms of visitors and memberships, and in terms of ad revenue that helps pay the hosting costs.

 You should make a skrillex subforum, I'm sure things will be even "better".

First of all, I'm not laughing about that - I said I was laughing about people who think I'm trying to make this site 'family friendly', which I'm not nor will I ever - some of the artists we discuss here are hardly family friendly, so hopefully that takes some wind out of those sails.

9 out of 10 people? You're taking surveys or something? It's silly for you to assume that your beliefs/feelings are shared by a overwhelming majority of people - if what you are assuming was true, why haven't droves of people left, off to find refuge on the other forums out there?

The fact is YOU are not happy with how I'm running things, and for that, all I can offer is that I am willing to listen to input made in a constructive manner, and if makes sense and is for the betterment of the community and is reasonably feasible, then it could be implemented. If you're still not happy, then perhaps you should ask yourself if it's worth sticking around or not. After all, this is a forum - it's not like this is some essential part of life or anything. We're all here to have fun and a laugh or two, be amazed by each others' creativity and celebrate our love of electronic music, and I assure you and everyone else, that's my goal and priority in keeping this forum on track so almost anyone can come here and feel welcome and not intimidated by content or personas they might find objectionable.

Of course I took that number out of my ass. But just read the thread. Is it not the majority? People haven't left because they like the community, obviously.

I must say that while this thread is complete shit at this point, it's pretty much the most fun I've had on this site so far. At least something is happening other than BoC rumors.

I usually try to stay out of watmm politics, but thanks and I'll do my best to stay reasonable.

What I meant was, it is very common for people to be okay with their significant other lusting after other people, but not necessarily having sex with other people. So, for example, I'm cool with my girlfriend lusting after other people, and she's cool with me doing the same. This does not imply that we're cool with the other sleeping with other people. We're just cool with keeping each othe'rs imaginations free. If I found myself in a relationship with someone who got excessively jealous whenever I lusted after someone else, and asked me to stop it, I would leave that relationship, knowing that it would be easy enough to find someone who would not be so controlling. Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but, from my experience, most people have a lot of understanding when it comes to feelings of lust.

I was just talking about lusting, not having sex with other people. However, it should be mentioned that a lot of people are actually cool with their significant others having sex with other people. There is the phenomenon of the monogamish couple, which may not be a majority, but is more common than people tend to think because it is not generally openly discussed.

So, I find it a bit much that you disapproved of Fred's lusting after women who are not his wife. I can see that there were other reasons for closing the thread, and you also admitted fault in the way you dealt with Fred. And I'm sure it gets tiresome when people are whiny drama-queens over every decision you make (I'm particularly thinking of the talk about you being a fascist that was common after some of the bannings). I'll also say that Max and sup had to go. Posting in this forum was like wading through idiocy until those two (one?) were banned. So I'm not trying to criticize you too much. I was just trying to clarify my post, because I think lust and sex got confused in there somehow.

Well, you have to admit - the people posting in this thread mostly know fuck all about what happened, and some are trolls who just want to jump on the 'bash the admin' bandwagon, so it's hardly a fair or unbiased sampling of WATMM's community.

Honestly, it's really never that different. In fact, the most surprising thing about watmm to me is how little it has changed.
