it's a self consciously melodramatic way to exit the site. i've stopped using it for years and didn't feel the need to make a scene. but fred has a pretty large fan club and seems to get a lot out of that club's appreciation, so he had to make a big deal about it. it's not like he was banned.

come on, it's not like he made this thread. As far as I know, apart from changing his sig, he left in a low-key way. It's the people who liked him who raised the visibility.

I agree this love for a fallen member is a bit alienating for people like me (i had no idea who this mcgriff guys was) but i had the choice to not click on this thread and not participate in the great Mcgriff fellatio.

It seems to me that most of the drama was caused by StephenG's inability to ignore criticism.
