I think the biggest kick I get out of the olympics is how much, in the lead up to events, the commentators focus on one or two athletes. They start building them up and building them up and then...some other person wins and the ones they were hyping up didn't even medal.

Apparently, post-game, the Olympics are a total fuckfest of physically perfect people.

I went to a Dodgers game a few weeks back, and sat in the right field bleachers. The seats were probably 55% women ages 14-30, all of whom apparently came to stare at Andre Ethier's ass. I base this on the observation that all of these female fans were wearing Ethier jerseys and shouting "I LOVE YOU ANDRE" "OMG I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM" and "HOLY SHIT LOOK AT HIS ASS!"

like in 2004, some female athletes of germany had a shooting for the german playboy issue "olympic special".

If you're great at racing in a pool then you can really cash in. For my money, gymnasts ftw! S. Korean Women Archers were mind blowing too!

I like the dude a lot. Arbitrary swimming medals - decent enough point - but he's still an amazing athlete.

Phelps is a generational talent with an appropriate physique, but as said it's easy to grab a bunch of medals in swimming. Someone like Carl Lewis or Larisa Latynina (previous record holder with 18 medals) with more varied disciplines are more impressive feats. Why not make it so that the results of each distance and style of swimming an athlete competes in are tallied and the three best results get their respective medals.

And this BS about the 16-year old Chinese girl Ye being doped because she dominated is just arrogance and racism from the Western media. Phelps gets 8 golds in Beijing and he's a hero and awesome, a Chinese wins gold in convincing fashion and she must be on the juice, hypocritical. It's a shame that an excellent performance is not being celebrated just because jealousy. I bet had the 17-year old American girl done the exact same result the press would be gushing all over it.

re that chinese chick - some kind of genetic enhancement is being suggested. i saw something on tv last night that showed a wee genetically enhanced mouse running much faster with much more stamina than it's wee unadulterated mouse pal.

Phelps isn't the greatest athlete that ever lived, he has the most Olympic medals. That is an impressive thing. People need to relax!!
