After a cursory glance at the relevant Wikipedia article, it seems the cocaine probably didn't help. You can constantly push yourself further creatively without having a nervous breakdown. You can also have weekends and holidays off if you like. I'm just saying that if you're not pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, then what's the point? You're ceasing to learn and just stagnating. Form the habit of routinely revising your routine. As for whether, if it were only possible to create a phenomenally successful album at the cost of a mental breakdown, it would be worth it or not... I shouldn't dare to speculate.

ill admit, im probably never going to be as open to new people like i was at 21. this does have an effect on my good times.. but its a personal issue i think. I am much more centered and worked out many of my issues that i had at 21 so i have a different quality of life now which makes the good times so much sweeter.

It's a personal issue that applies to pretty much everyone. When you're young, you seek out novelty, anything new and interesting. As you get older, you get more adverse to change. Plus most people get married and have kids, and introduce them to their own taste, and before you know it, you've got children dancing along to music that was originally intended to start riots or serve as a prolonged suicide note. That's just how it works.

I'm glad you also worked out issues you had at that age. If you want to think of it that way, the upside to having a bad start in life is that you don't slip into nostalgia and instead concentrate on constantly building a brighter future for yourself, to the point where you overtake your peers who took happiness (or at least, an absence of misery) for granted. Although to paint such things as a blessing in disguise is probably in bad taste.

I guess I don't have a point. :D
