Michael Giacchino doing a Star Wars score = my dream come true.

This news is non-news, really.

I dare anybody here to come up with a viable alternative that would have made them happy. Key word: Viable.

Abrams or Verbinski, flip a coin. In a hypothetical experiment, they'll make 90% identical films, regardless.

Alfonso Cuaron.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

ding! Now that would have been truly amazing.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Alfonso Cuaron.

Well, fuck. I stand corrected (sorta). As critical of CoM as I've been, I still respect its artistry. That, and his Potter film was by far the best of the bunch. It's even a great standalone film.

Still, I don't think it's viable. Cuaron doesn't have nearly enough big budget chops to satisfy studios.

Do people genuinely like Giacchino? That surprises me. His music seems as derivative as any other generic fill-in-the-blank Hollywood composer. The Lost music is shit.

just watched y tu mama again last night.

what a fantastic movie. possibly one of my favs ever. sexy, funny, great camerawork (cuaron obvs) and much much more going on about the political atmosphere of mexico aka rural vs city, but it's never presented as a political movie, or even a movie about mexico ftm.

ANYWAY, we'll see how gravity does. I agree he's too artsy for big budget, but star wars will always make huge money, always so why not risk it on a proven artist? especially if you're looking to reboot a series that was lampooned for next to zero cinematic artistry

It has been confirmed by both companies that Episode VII will be an original story and not directly based on the various novels, graphic novels, or other materials in the Star Wars Expanded Universe that take place during the post-Return of the Jedi time period. This includes, most notably, Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, the first installment in Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, which was originally considered by fans to be Episode VII.

I'm neutral with the choice of a director considering I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE MOVIE WILL BE ABOUT

Also, there are already like 474,833,920 EU plots and sub-plots.

The guy that wrote "Little Miss Sunshine" is writing the script?

Not sure if lol

To be fair he also does sci-fi.

Another "to be fair" there are plenty of screenwriters out there who write for different types of film genre.

I don't think it will be shit, I'm just comparing the drastic differences in character archetypes, settings, vernacular language...THOSE are what make me smirk a bit.

In his defense, part of what made the original trilogy stand out was the way the characters presented a very "this-is-everyday-life" attitude, which I wouldn't doubt his caliber of dialogue could easily achieve.

Yes you heard wrong dude. Giacchino is probably one of the only respected new composer in existance. All he has done is genuine and not just a Remote control production clone. Lost is an incredible body of composition.

That's cool, I guess I didn't watch enough Lost to hear the incredible parts?

The soundtrack for Up was beautiful and it had a theme melody that was memorable.

Up

Lost

The Medal of Honor series

Call of Duty

Secret Weapons over Normandy

Cloverfield (that ending suite!!!)

Ratatouille

Super 8

The Incredibles (channels John Barry like nobody!)
MI Ghost Protocol

John Carter (by far the best swashbuckling score of the past decade)

Star Trek

etc...

Heck even things like Speed Racer as a score or a dark one like Earth Days or Let me In shows that he's got the chops. He's a pure talented composer that writes the old-school way. He's got a couple of duds, but so does every composer. But the guy is made to adapt John's existing material like no other composer. It's a genius combo.

This is pretty cool. This JJ dude makes pretty good movies, and as Frankie said on the last page, it's not like it can get much worse than that prequel trilogy (not that I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy either, but still.)

Could be good, could be bad. So far, we know nothing about it.

edit: lens flare is cool as hell. No such thing as too much lens flare.

there once walked a lens flare in a bar..

Я твой слуга, Я твой работник

Really? Does Abrams use an excess of this "lens flare", and why is this only now coming to my attention?
