Guys, guys... imagine if Leia and Solo's daughter is played by Jennifer Lawrence.

i hope to god this story does not revolve around any Jedi wars bullshit. Thats part of why the prequels sucked is because in the original trilogy they were a mysterious 'lost' group of masters. If this movie has a bunch of jedi running around again doing light saber fights (among other shitty choices) it's going to be a pile of shit, mark my words

I hate myself for even posting in a Star Wars thread, because I'll end up looking like "that-Star-Wars-guy", but I really hope they somehow make Star Wars mysterious in that JJ Abrams kinda way, where things get hinted at but nothing ever gets explained... kinda like what you're mentioning Awepittance.

Apparently Lucus sold LucasArts on the condition that Disney execs approved the scripts he'd already written for the next three films. They were duly impressed and the deal went down (probably hoping to do a rupert murdock on lucas and just change shit as they saw fit once he'd signed everything over. (this is presuming that the scripts were shit)

Which leads me to comment thusly about this.

mark hamill looks like emperor palpatine. abrams should throw some wacky time travel shit into the new one. have luke go back in time just to fuck with vader. he fathers a son named anakin, abandons him, then reappears in his life as a middle aged politician and guru. it all leads up to return of the jedi, when luke is electrocuting himself/his grandson, and vader tries to throw him down a reactor shaft. luke removes his hood, goes "who's your daddy?" then tosses vader into a lens flare. the two lukes hi five and tear open the time space continuum, killing everyone in the universe, effectively ending any more of these terrible fucking movies.

This is probably a much better idea than what they will eventually come up with.

Nah, he had that guy who wrote Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 write the script.

yes, exactly. Plenty of stuff in the original trilogies was left totally unexplained with relatively light back story. Even Jabba in Return of the Jedi, we heard about him in New Hope but do they explain anything else beyond an un-paid debt to a criminal?

The clone wars were hinted at, and then ruined when they were explained to be Boba Fet's dad x 1,000,000 in storm trooper outfits. The Jedi as an organization was left just as mysterious as the force itself in the original films. So many interesting things about the original star wars trilogy come in the form of hinting and brief exposition. In the prequels instead we get this int he form of 'remember the time i rescued you from the sarlack nest' or whatever the fuck, i mean jesus christ.

edit: I still stand by the theory that in IV-V, the 'sith' were supposed to be mysterious too, maybe even some kind of possessive host like alien creature or demonic like entity and not simply the ying to the jedi's yang. To demote them to just being evil jedis to me just feels like lucas trying to explain every single thing he left mysterious. It's stupid.

On the point of things being left unexplained:

If you compare the original release of Donnie Darko with the directors cut, the original is much better because the director had to edit out a lot of the clumsy explanation of what was going on, thereby accidentally making a much more interesting and mysterious film.

So it is with the original Star Wars - some films are improved because the director didn't get to do whatever they wanted.

There might be a place for a young female upstart Jedi that will open the possibility for Kristen Stewart

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

true, but that would be assuming Lucas had the same (prequel) explanations for things when he did the original trilogy. I personally don't think he did.

I agree, yeah he probably hadn't thought up the midichlorians bollocks at that time, But he would have lumbered the film with clumsy explanations of something or other. E.g. If Lucas had had free reign on Episode 4 he would have filled it with exposition dumps like this:

It's funny how wound up the internets are just about the director and screenwriter. I can't imagine when casting actually starts, for the trilogy and the spin off films. I'm sure there will be some great and dreadful choices. There better not be too much Star Trek crossover with actors, that would suck.

looks like Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours both cancelled. Detours didn't even survive to air.

And it wasn't the scripts, but the treatments (aka rough sketches and outlines) of episodes 6-9 he insisted be considered. If you've ever read the treatments for 4-6, you'll know the director, producers, and designers have quite a bit of leeway then with the future movies, as long as they keep close to the essence of the treatments. Hopefully they don't rely too much on Lucas' input henceforth otherwise we'll get farting aliens and wooden dialogue.
