Also, as much as I enjoy ambient music, Old Dreams Waiting to be Realized is undistinguishable from the work of any other ambient artist out there. It's the most samey genre there is

I had a similar initial feeling with drukqs, too much boosh in between the ohshiizzz.

The difference being that drukqs was released as a "mp3 album" from which you just pick the tracks you feel like listening to at the moment, while Shaking the Habitual is supposed to be a more cohesive album meant to be listened to in a single sitting. And, personally, I think a 9 minute ambient piece kills the mood that a beast like Full of Fire sets previously, and I mean it in a negative way.

this is my main concern with the album and you stated it better than i could have. the ambient pieces definitely kill the mood for me.

and the comparison with drukqs is totally off. most of the mellow pieces are interludes that only last a couple of minutes and i think they cleanse the palate, so to speak, between the more epic tracks on the album. they also manage to maintain the mood pretty well, while the ambient crap on shaking the habitual totally fails at it.

i guess i am disappointed with this album because i was expecting more of silent shout. the first two songs on the album are so good and then it's like 20 minutes of blergh.

Is this true? This seems completely inaccurate to me.

there should be no concern with this record, it is amazing and the track "Without You My Life Would Be Boring" could be released on its own and is as amazing as most other full records ever released....

Hopefully the experimental drone parts of the album will cause main stream music listeners to seek out Tim Hecker and many others that they might never have knew they should be listening to.....

There is so much beautiful art to enjoy within this record, one should just give in and enjoy the entire record unless you need to listen to banality in order to keep yourself sane. This world is filled with so many distractions leading us away from our paths and this album is a celebration of not straying from what you love about life as a sacrifice to what is the norm. I understand the need for more. I think Fever Ray wrote a song about that.

I want to have sex with and marry myself to this record.

I think I already have.

My first copy was ripped from a demo and purchased off of ebay.

Then I bought the hard copy at a local cd store.

wtf is happening here????????? I am pretty sure bleep wasn't around yet or the massive sale of mp3's through the internet. Forced Exposure or Boomkat? Or the warpstore. whatever. Winston Churchill was actually an mp3 and not a fan of cigars.

"MP3 album" is not supposed to be taken literally, I just meant that as a concept. Aphex said so himself, in an interview I can't seem to find.

Q: So the only real reason why you are putting an album out now is because you wanted to officially release as many tracks as possible before they get around unofficially?

A: Yeah, pretty much. It’s kind of like an mp3 album really. I don’t reckon that many people will do it, but the way I listen to music now is that I buy a CD, put it on the computer and just take the tracks I want anyway. I’d hope that people would to the same with this CD.

I never knew that...now I don't feel bad about never understanding the flow of that album. After one listen I made a spastic CD and a chill CD out of the whole thing, and forever listened to them that way. I think.

People hating on the ambient/drone tracks makes me sad inside.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

We're getting a blizzard tonight. I'll literally be walking 20 minutes in 2 feet of snow uphill to go get it tomorrow.

carry a sled with you so you can ride it downhill back home with your glorious bounty.

good lord the second track is an absolute beast!

this sounds muuuuch better in my car than the 2 scattered listens i had at low volume in my office. I haven't gone through the whole thing in my car as i immediately went back to full of fire.

true test will be on the home stereo in the coming days but I am liking this. first half at least.

Second listen tonight on vinyl, just amazing. Can't wait to hear it live at Camden Roundhouse next month. Fucking BOOM.
