Not to defend myself, but that article about the correct usage of "begs the question" does an ok job of explaining what qualifies for "begs the question", but a pretty poor job of explaining how to use it in normal speech. The way they describe it it sounds almost entirely superfluous, and even more pretentious than the common usage.

I think it's one of those things that, like "ironic", people will just end up too intimidated to use (if they are aware of the fuss over the correct usage). The popular usage makes a lot more sense to me than the technically correct usage. Also language evolves etc (though normally I dislike that argument as it leads to all sorts of misuse).

not many, but i think Hedges is much more bitter than most of the others I've come across. When he's not being bitter and just focusing on American capitalism and foreign policy he's pretty great.

yeah to me he seems like he might be clinically depressed, possibly ptsd (due to being a war correspondent?). This is all conjecture on my part but I get a "whiff". Was also interested to read the comments on his "War is a Force that gives us meaning" book, that he may have fictionalized one incident in the book. Not sure if true, but it would be in keeping with the vibe I get from his youtube clips, that he exaggerates and oversimplifies to fit his theories (confirmation bias).
