I got curious about Max through using Ableton. I was asking more and more generative stuff, and felt like I was reaching the limits at what I could do in Live. So last October, I bit the bullet and bought a full license (then got free upgrade to Max9 a few weeks later). For sure, probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to learn, and one of the few things where my ADHD hperfocussing has been super useful!

Anyhoo, this is where im at so far.

Yes totally off-putting and plugdata is getting very evolving now

People are like "yeah but u can go 100% codebox on max 9" like okey why even bother to do the graphical patching enviroment then lol

learning puredata/plugdata right now and it's REALLY fun, first time I've really tried to get into one of these low-level modular envs. ultimately want to compile it down and use my creations in some DIY hardware prototypes, also make my own shitty plugins...

It's funny you mention why use graphical at all. I think ultimately I would probably be better off with just coding with a good library, seems really silly some of the things you have to do to make things work right in PD. That being said I like seeing the signal flow and being able to add things like scopes at various stages to see whats happening.
