Exai bottom three

Recommended Posts

i strongly dislike etchogon, but love irlite. Fleure to irlite is a great stretch.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Never cared much for Etchogon-S either lol.

With irlite it's mostly the beat that bugs me, how they don't subdivide it, it's just this tinny little snare hitting with obnoxious regularity amidst a bunch of chaos at an awkward tempo. The synths that play a melodic role remind me of Nuane which is cool, but the melodies are just more of that "bashing on the white keys" aesthetic of old Ae. I just think they could have taken this sound palette/concept and done something better with it. As a devoted fanboy I keep giving it another chance but it's not sticking.

irlite is the best track on the entire album

hands down. This track on drugs is fucking A. That moment where the bass suddenly becomes louder @7.39, announcing the final part is pretty cool. The only downside is that on my speakers, that track sounds a bit muddy basswise, whereas it's sounds just fine on headphones.

So it's not just my speakers that are set up wrong. The end to that track is hella boomy, compared to the rest of the album.

Yeah, the bass frequencies tend to eat up mids and highs. As if that track had been mixed down on headphones.

The same goes for Flep, it lacks brightness on speakers but is fine on headphones.

Irlite (Get 0) is the only track that seems to carry over the melodic style of Oversteps. Really wish more tracks on the album sounded like this. Was listening to EP7 today and even the melodies on that are superior to most of Exai. Still see Exai as a missed opportunity to combine the oversteppy melodies with hard hitting beats.

my mom's favorite track is prac-f, she didn't seem impressed by the rest of the album overall. but when that track kicked in she said 'what is this, it's awesome'

Your Mom is pretty awesome then. I showed my Mom IO once and she screamed for me to shut it off like I was sticking a red hot poker into her eye.

To be fair, the objective was completed successfully

"Introducing mum to Ae" almost deserves its own thread.

Never really tried it myself, but tracks I'd consider would be Silverside (Amber), Pule (Chiastic Slide), Corc (LP5), Known (1), See On See, and Treale (Oversteps), and Bladelores & Nodezsh (Exai).

Also when I get around to ordering Amber on vinyl I plan to lend it to my Dad and get him to listen to it some time.

YJY UX

Fleure (although I like it more now, always skipped it at first)

runrepik

Sometimes I like these tracks though, it's not like other releases where I just never listen to them and take out some tracks form the albums to make room on my MP3 player.

Which says a lot considering the size of the album.

I just dislike the beat on runrepik, and that terrible noise on Fleure although the other stuff is very nice, YJY UX has some nice bits but is a bit of a borefest.

I hope YJY and spl9 grow on you guys eventually, I love those tracks so much. spl is my favorite right now. At first I liked the end and found the rest daunting, but now it's the other way around - the end has lost some of its punch but I find the whole midsection to be really masterful. The way the reverb swells in and changes the track's whole sense of space at 3:20 is just gorgeous. There's so much going on in this track.

Irlite I had trouble with initially but it's grown on me a lot - I agree it's the most Oversteps-ish track on the album, with those elusive fluttering melodies that sink in more over time.

Hard to pick least favorites, but I'd say Fleure is still not clicking with me and jatavee has lost its initial charm and now gets skipped often.
