I just made 24 pieces of spam musubi for a work potluck tomorrow. Ended up having to cook another full 3-cup batch of rice halfway thru the assembly tho.

After about 3 weeks of antibiotics treatment (and several blood and stool tests and x-rays) whatever bug I caught in Indonesia seems to be finally gone. Yay, can eat normally.

electro mini-album Megacity Rainfall
"cacas in igne, heus"  - Emperor Nero, AD 64

After almost a decade of casual searching, this morning I finally located a copy of MINDFUCKERS that I can actually afford.

Not the album, the book.

Later this summer when I have more free time I think I'm going to produce an audiobook of it, just because that's something that should exist.

I'm not a book collector or anything so I'm only after a handful of very specific, esoteric things (although if I happen to find something cool for cheap I grab it). In the last 12 years or so managed to track down underpriced copies of the Boo Hoo Bible, The Wizard of Op, Raymond Pettibon: The Books, Fletcher and Zenobia, and now Mindfuckers.  The only rare book left that I'd actually want to spend any sort of money on is I Seem To Be a Verb, but my hopes aren't high for ever finding an affordable copy of that

shii. hella keen to read this, I've been diving into Acid Dreams a lot recently.

Acid Dreams is great for the first 100 pages or so, all of the stuff based on their early access to all those declassified files.  Everything beyond that is more like cliff note versions of Electric Kool Aid Acid Test and a few other books - stuff anyone who is interested in that era probably already knows by the time they find out about Acid Dreams.  Still worth it though.

I also have one called The Guru Papers that I found in a box of discarded stuff a few years ago haven't opened yet that seems like it's thematically (if not intentionally or in style) a followup to Mindfuckers, so I'll have to actually read it finally when I'm done with Mindfuckers.

Actually, no promises because it will all be down to the binding and how sneaky I can be, but I DO technically have access to a local university's overhead book scanners, so if I can find the time and do it without getting kicked out for scanning an entire book (they don't like you doing that) I'll see if I can actually scan Mindfuckers and make a PDF.  But that won't be for a while if I can do it at all.

If you're in to this sort of stuff, you should also try to track down the movie Ticket To Heaven.  I haven't seen it since I caught it on daytime TV as a kid (which might be how I first started to develop my interest in cults actually) but I remember it being pretty good.

Found a new job finally! Graphic Design at one of the larger casinos around here, and then helping with some AV shit when I'm not busy with graphic stuff to fill out hours, most money I've been paid for a job to date. Also still managing to make my severance from my previous job last ?

oo thanks! I'll try and track down a copy:)

interesting, I don't really know much about the era other than info I've picked up on Hamiltons Pharmacopeia. all the biz on government testing/mindcontrol/truth serum is exciting to read haha.

I stopped drinking coffee and my anxiety has significantly decreased. like significantly as in holy fuck it's almost gone help.

Work was so desperate to cover a set of nights that the shift management group sought me out, moved my summer leave over a week so I now get 4 weeks off instead of three, and moved my overtime to my time off so I don't lose it.

had to drive like a cunt to deepest Inglan while a mate heckled Jacob Rees-Moog in my home town

it would be impossible to resist bricking the cunt, maiming, blood transfusion at least, a legitimate target as the Ra used to say, he gets trapped in a revolving hotel door, bosh, hammer time, it's ok to think that though, it isn't planning or owt

Tried to introduce someone who usually only listens to Rock and Metal to Autechre by showing them violvoic. They said: "Hmmm, sounds interesting so far, but when is an actual beat coming in finally?". Then I put on Aphex Twin and they said: "That's actually sounding really nice, is that also the Autechres?". I said: "Hmmm, yes"

Now that person likes Autechre, too

New profile is coming in at work meaning a Mad Hatter's Tea Party of FUBAR. Everyone taking on new roles and jobs and the inevitable teething problems that will ensue as my place of work is fucking terrible at foresight.

Luckily I have three weeks annual leave so I will miss most of this. Unluckily the profile comes in a week before my leave starts so I will actually experience the worst of it.

That was until the Staff Management Group guy sought me out two days ago. He'd noticed my large chunk of leave and knew I'd be an ideal candidate to cover a set of nights they were desperately short of staff for. SO, now I'll be on nights during that first week, AND he's bumped my leave over meaning I now have 4 weeks off afterwards. He even sorted me out a few nights of overtime during my time off :^)

I think I finally fixed the issue with the Esc, 1, Q, A, & Z keys being mostly unresponsive on my laptop. But I had to go into the BIOS and update it to do so. I hope I fixed it anyway. I hope.

UPDATE: External keyboard acquired. Installed. Test successful. Even after spending about half an hour removing the bottom cover, blasting the dust out with compressed gas, and screwing it back on, that still didn't get the farthest left keys working. But now that the new USB keyboard works beautifully, it matters not.

Officially started the new job today at the casino, seems like it's gonna be pretty good gig, spent the day mostly doing secondary role A/V stuff, since I haven't been trained in yet on what will become my primary role doing graphic design for the A/V team. Even the A/V labor was much more enjoyable than the last company I did A/V tech work for, the pay is much better and my team all seems like good guys.

Only qualm so far is the 7am start time, but I'll get used to that and it gets me out early enough to enjoy the afternoon/evening.
