*embeds different artwork anyway*

Edit: Oh man it's been far too long since I played that Global Communication album.

Oh boy I wish I hadn't watched that video. What was more disturbing is the google video search results for the bjork stalker that someone mentioned on here and I was dumb enough to watch.

I'm a little surprised this guy has 27 pages of comments regarding his new album. I've never been able to get in to his music and this new video hasn't helped.

I think I must be getting old, this video is the kind of thing I'd be incredibly embarrassed to admit watching to a friend or family member or anyone I know in real life, yet this artist chose these images to represent his music?? Jeez is nothing sacred?

*leaves internet*

This album is not worth listening to, IMO.

Wtf warp.

i feel pretty similarly to this. the video doesn't even offend me, it's just kind of embarrassing, not deep in any way.

It reminds me of those godawful fan videos of "Xtal" and "Alberto Balsam" of 9/11 footage, the 2004 tsunami, various A-bomb tests, etc. Shock imagery + contemplative music. The latter video even had some clip of man's arm being ripped off (I think it's a video nasty hoax - I hope so anyway). Both almost tainted the songs for me, their existence always annoyed me.

The "Still Life" video is far more interesting on the surface and better edited...but it's still the same effect. I don't find it deep either, it's momentarily intriguing and shocking at best. If I'm "not getting it" then so be it. Sometimes I simple and straightforward art and music. And reviews too...I won't even bother reading this one anytime soon:

really? There are parts that to me come straight from the VHS playbook -- in a fun but not sycophantic way. (Someone who I think you have respect for?)

The tight rhythmic parts to me are the most successful, but I think Daniel has benefited from WARP? Things seem richer. Maybe he got more money for mastering? The mix is rich but the parts are so distinct. A lovely approach I think. Instantly my favorite OPN full-length on first listen, but will take time to top Russian Mind... it could do it however!!

I think his approach to cultural critique and synthesis through the music is fantastic... the videos bore me and detract from the mysterious and sometimes ambivalent approach the music takes. Ohh the internet is shocking? NooOOOOoooooOOOooo! There are angry messed up people in the world? My GOD! No sense of interaction with the viewer... lame.

Yes. Reminds me of some of the tracks off Civilisation Phase III that use exotic/world instrument sampling.

I keep wondering about this Bleep policy of only allowing MP3 downloads with the physical release, Autechre being an exception IIRC. Of course if you get the CD you can rip it losslessly anyway, but I don't get the rationale behind it at all, especially since they let you redownload seemingly as often as you like, so bandwidth would be a silly reason. It's not like I can even tell the difference, but it's nice being able to transcode from a lossless file.

I have been avoiding leaks like a good preordering buyfag but I couldn't resist the NPR stream. I am in the "holly shit" camp in terms of how much this album is a game changer for him. WATMM gets clever obviously when it comes to music criticism and like SND being Sonic stuck in bumpers, someone has also said OPN is like "falling asleep on a Juno 60 arpeggiator". I feel like he definitely woke up with this album. I think it's not only a nod to 90's New Age/GenMIDI tropes but also a tribute to experimental greats like Edgar Varese and the "organized noise" concept. I immediately thought of "Poeme Electronique" in the first 20 minutes. Working with Tim Hecker has rubbed off on him too since the middle part of "Zebra" sounds just like the "Music For Tundra" trilogy from "Haunt Me, Haunt Me, Do It Again". There's something for everybody in here. That also seems to be the problem for some but I'm having a great time letting all the vignettes come at me bro
