Can't get over how amazing Steinvord is

listened to this track a few times in a row today mostly because of how weird it is. It's a good track but it's still impossible to shake the idea that it's actually using material from 'go spastic' and other tracks from go plastic.

at around 2:48 - 2:50 you can hear what songs like a ring modulated person talking. A long shot but maybe decoding what's being said gives some clues. I don't know how to do that trick where you un-ring modulate something.

these things being anonymous are interesting to about 100 people, and therefore its a time waster for that many people. i think as of this minute it's no longer interesting.

any other ways to 'decode' it?

I've got Max4Live and since posting that message have gained a bit of knowledge of how the bugger works so will try it out now ..

what's really weird about the track is I feel like I can hear the parts Richard may be manipulating that Tom originally composed, there is a long lull in the track where everything gets really slowed down and all these electro acoustic tonal things start happening to coincide with it that reminds me a lot of Aphex's ambient/experimental stuff (not SAWII, but some of the one off tracks like on Drukqs and other places)

I'm also still curious if anyone has definitively cracked the Rushup Edge lyrics yet, elusive watmm member elusive acted as if he had inside knowledge on what the lyrics were and said they were 'deeply personal'. Obviously i have no reason to believe him, except long ago he had a CD quality copy of Synthacon 9 before Rushup Edge had leaked onto the internet, so part of me wonders......

Though not sure if it's a 'reverse' ring mod, sounds more like a strange pseudo gapper. Is there anyone here with MAX/MSP knowledge that could pursue this further ?

when you say pseudo gapper, maybe its not a sine wave but a squarewave cycle modulating it? I don't know how to generate a square wave on max

i think adobe audition, at least older versions of it, have a thing called 'demodulate'

maybe that would work

i just got interested again cause i just found out that it was made by Rephlex, so that kind of narrows it down a lot. now we know it's not just any random street performer that Grant and Richard found. it's most likely a project made by some people affiliated with Rephlex.

 

oh, but we better not go snooping around for clues in it since theyre keeping it secret like secret society style, if you know what i mean, you dont wanna discover those sorts of secrets. maybe its best not to snoop around.

listen to 'my fucking sound' and 'maelstrom' and tell me they dont sound exactly the same. anyone who says steinvord is 'worlds away' from afx and squarepusher are just being silly or need to get their ears checked

 

 

after trying demodulating it (unsuccessfully) i got it a little closer to being audible. It sounds to me like the first part of it is saying

 

"one time drops on the floor" , could be totally off

good call, and if anyone has heard the AFX track 'Mangle 11 (Circuit Bent V.I.P. Mix)' off the Rephlexions comp there is a very very similar sounding vocal cutup towards the end (maybe not of to this Go plastic track but another one). It makes me think that maybe even My fucking sound is from these same sessions they did together. I would put 'My Fucking Sound' 'Maelstrom' and 'Mangle 11 (Circuit Bent V.I.P. Mix)' as from the same music making sessions, maybe they started off trying to learn from eachother doing crazy fast drill stuff but then went off and made their own tracks, possibly Maelstrom is just an unreleased outtake from those sessions.

 

 

3:08 - 4:00

 

although the only very squarepushery aphex production (this track) sounds very differently mixed than a typical tom jenkinson track. The amen break is more distorted/overdriven sounding with not as much of that punchy percussion found through out Go Plastic and even Maelstrom. To me Maelstrom just from a mixing perspective sounds way more like a Tom Jenkinson production. The only track off the Steinvord 12" that sounds like it could have been made by aphex from beginning to end is Iffy Acid

I agree sounds like Richard's hands on Squarepusher's compositions.

Discogs says Steinvord is Ovidiu Cara.. From Italy, or Spain? Can't tell which..
