Can't get over how amazing Steinvord is

Recommended Posts

Been living in a massive underground fungal internets weighing in at about 1.5 tons per human cave for months so only just got round to properly listening to this. If this isn't Squarepusher (in some parts) I don't know what the fuck to think. Listening to Maelstrom I don't understand how it can not be Squarepusher. It sound EXACTLY like him.

Joyrex knows WHAT it is, instead of WHO it is ? is that right ? like some collab stuff or a split ep ??

Judging from my ep, i'd say its AFX (first 2 tracks) & after the gap, Squarepusher. Fantastic record anyway.

i just got interested again cause i just found out that it was made by Rephlex, so that kind of narrows it down a lot. now we know it's not just any random street performer that Grant and Richard found. it's most likely a project made by some people affiliated with Rephlex.

oh, but we better not go snooping around for clues in it since theyre keeping it secret like secret society style, if you know what i mean, you dont wanna discover those sorts of secrets. maybe its best not to snoop around.

yeah like Daft Punk or Burial or Me? But i'm sure it's Richard & Tom, they would out this EP in MEN records but... they didn't want 2 take a risk... so, u know where this EP was released... and yeah, i laught again like spanish people. peace & b wild. ;-)

ive done the test with my girlfriend. I made her listen to iffy acid and asked her she think it was. the asnwer was clear, aphex twin. She doesnt really like aphex twin, but she was able to recognize him straight away.

I'm also sure its richard and Tom here and there.

Your girlfriend is now officially more of a fan than you are, because firstly she got it straight away, and secondly you had to ask your girlfriend.

Guys, it's a Spanish 18 year old with his fucking computer. It was right there on his myspace page, c'mon!

Yeah, just like Brad Strider was Manuel Sepulveda and he just "used" Richard's gear to make Bradley's Beat...

What if it's really RDJ, but using someone's else gear? The technique and magic is there, but to my ears, sometimes it sounds like the production is different, not better or worse, just different. It's hard to explain. It's mixed differently, different hardware/VST's, maybe on someone's else laptop. Anyway, I still want these tracks on digital, I don't want to know who does it (even if you guys keep me speculating).

Has anyone else noticed the similarity between the outro to Steinvord's Cyg-X1 and the outro to D'Arcangelos Simple Science?

both of those sound like stone in focus to me

tbh i find it believable that steinvord is not tom, richard, or both. it has it's own flavor, kind of a cold visciousness that neither tom nor rich have really demonstrated (not cold and viscious in a bad way, it's thoroughly awesme). even in their work that could be described with those words, it's different from steinvord's. its a common thing in music for people to name things after influences in homage. undoubtedly the name is where most people get the idea that it's tom and rich. tbh maelstrom doesn't sound that tomish to me, it's significantly different, even from that go plastic stuff that bears some resemblance to it. also the untitled tracks, which are the most similar to rich's stuff, imo, stand out as different from rich's stuff. its hard to describe, but it's like untitled 9 and untitled seem jazzier and more intricate in ways, with more narratives that weave around in a way that i haven't seen in richard's stuff.

i had been thinking it was tom and rich largely because that's what watmmers had been saying, and the name, and the skill, but the sound of it seems noticably different from their styles, though arguments for some influence could be made. i had previously been thinking if it were them then they had awesomely succeeded on establishing a new sound, but i think people should take seriously the possibility that its a young spanish dude who makes music with a fucking computer.

linguistically, (welsh, cornish, finnish, estonian, finnish and papua new guinean pidgin notwithstanding,) i submit my analysis of 'Steinvord'

it is a compound word, a proper name since it seems to be the title of a musical effort.

'stein,' I take to mean 'stone'

'vord,' shares the most common meaning to 'worm'

so, I looked up 'stone worm' and lo and behold, theres awesome judeo-hermetic lore behind it.

I was hoping someone else would reverse image search the stone worm etching.

The stone worm (possibly also known as king Solomon's 'shamir') has the ability to disintegrate stone. Pretty cool lore, and it's probably a true story.

I'd love to spend a summer in a place like that. A bag of weed, a fridge full of beer, an aluminum boat (with a fishfinder), a rucksack of quality fishing tackle, good walking boots and tunes. Oh and a barbeque/smoker to eat my savage catch

The hills just invite you to climb them, and whilst you did the view would be fantastic. I wonder if that area is midge ridden, that would dampen the mood somewhat.

The midge is a small biting flying insect, they have them in scotland so i was thinking that they'd be over there as well.
