Yeah in theory there is nothing wrong with pedophilic thoughts and urges. Nobody creates their own nature. It is decidedly unlucky to be born and instilled with pedophilic urges.

The problem--the only one I can see--is when actual children enter the picture (in either porn or real-life).

Therefor a pedophile who recognizes the potential harm and thus finds safe harmless outlets for his urges is fine by me. I don't see that person as being any more dangerous than the next (non-pedophile) person.

For example, I have ocd urges to do stuff like jump from tall places or to tug people's hair in grocery lines but as long as I never act on any of these urges then it's all good. (Although admittedly since the urge is there the potential is technically there)

equating pedophilia with sexual orientation/kinks may be completely wrongheaded though. I'm too lazy/grossed out to really investigate, but it seems to me pedophilia, like rape, is probably more about power than sexual gratification - after all, there can be no greater power imbalance than between adult and child. That would also align with the seeming fact that many paedo sex offenders were themselves molested as children. Trying to make someone else feel as helpless as they once felt.

I'd be curious to know, for example, if you castrated and cut the dick off every male pedophile, how many would still try to violate kids with objects and stuff (though, not curious enough to even want to google search it).

People murder people josh and here in queensland spend less time in prison than pedos do. Take their fucking life away, never to give it back. So whilst i find what they did distasteful, i think society needs to get it's priorities straight. Murder worse than kiddie fiddling.

There was an interesting comment in the salon article that the people that offend with children tend to be of a criminal anti-social bent any way. So maybe your power theory has some validity on top of their already wrongheaded sexual urges.

It's quite similar in the U.S. - only capital murder is guaranteed life and/or death penatly: killing an officer, killing multiple people, etc. A fair amount of people are convicted of murder and get out faster than those convicted of lesser crimes.

Ian Watkins is a particularly disturbed and psychopathic individual but the spectrum of morality among pedos varies greatly. It's the ones that act out without shame or restraint that deserve the severe sentences. That first sentence was misleading: I don't feel that way about every case of child abuse, as sickening as it is. Ian Watkins is the worse of the worse, and while we will never know, thankfully, I would of not been shocked if a child was eventually killed by his pursuits. There's a dark and disturbing network of child kidnapping and prostitution that feeds into these crimes.

Question: wouldn't the sociopathic pedophiles actually have less of a choice in a sense? Like, they're quite literally born to be a child sex offender, seeing as they have no empathy. They might not care about this, but it's not exactly their choice. Like, if you have empathy you should be able to see why its wrong, but I feel it would be much harder to deduce this is you didn't.

Also, that old Louis C.K. bit is probably the funniest thing I've seen from him.

i think violent criminals and sexual predators should maybe go into jail with their hands and feet paralyzed with botox or something and they can earn the right to use their limbs after a thorough mental reconditioning process of some kind

The problem with severe punishments is that you have to remember it's going to be some government or other who'll carry it out. The more severe the punishment, the more trust you have to put into the government. I personally wouldn't want to give that power to anyone, no matter how disgusted I am at this guy's behavior.

Chastity in the long term has shown to have the effects of increasing empathy, affection, and reducing the desire to orgasm very frequently. It is less gruesome in my opinion, and possibly effective. A much kinder alternative if you ask me.

It is pretty fucked up to promote prison rape. Yes, maybe one guy who "deserves" it might get raped, but then you have the weak who are constantly preyed on by those stronger than them. Better yet you have the prison guards using the rapists to control the prison population by the threat of being housed with them. Pretty fucked to wish the daily threat of rape on someone. Most people who end up in prison for violent crime either made a horrible mistake, are sick mentally, or were desperate. Most people are generally good. It is the environment that often leads them to crime. We need to focus on creating a society where people don't feel the need break the law or hurt other people. Punishing people harshly does not promote this ideal. I also believe people should be able to choose the death penalty for themselves.

i think the worst thing about the death penalty is the masturbatory nature of watching someone slowly die over the course of minutes. why not just gas their cell with nitrous until they pass out and let a 10 ton metal thing fall on them flattening them instantly while they are fast asleep from nitrous. that why you don't corrupt a handful of peoples brains and the rest of society by legaly watching the life drain from a human being (on the death bed, every human being is the same human being)

I see the argument that giving the state power to execute people is a dangerous thing, given that power can be abused and miscarriages of justice can happen - the way I see it though is that most don't agree with the death penalty because it isn't very nice. Neither's locking people up. Neither's a fixed penalty fine. You don't like it because you're essentially a nice person. The older I get the more I think fuck it, I'd gladly watch these bastards hang from the neck until dead - and I hope it'd really fucking hurt as well.

Concrete camps (prisons) should be for non violent crimes. The shit about how lethal injection might 'hurt' if it's performed wrong? Lethally inject a bullet into his skull, no hurt. We have our prison institutions hold higher morality than the criminals they keep? Screw the morality, make people AFRAID to commit horrible acts. Most of the people I've met (less than five) who have been to jail/prison more than a few times did their acts because they were either drug-addicts that did stupid shit or they just really laughed at how our system coddles offenders and never really fixes the problem. I have never known any rapist or murderers- whom I consider to be lower than whale shit -but I imagine if you interviewed those types 90 times out of 100 you'd end that conversation with them and immediately want them to be strung up.
