I was in a liquor store a few hours ago and they were playing Die Antwoord. So I got naked and did a backflip into a shelf of mead knocking it over, destroying hundreds of dollars worth of inventory and inflicting terror on innocent bystanders. Why? Just to piss off normal people who don't understand how unique I am. On the way out I told them I listen to Aphex Twin, man.

lol yu da man!

Hmmm... doesn't canned mean that it's rejected?

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I missed out on getting tickets to see them in May, and when I went to Bangface they freaking cancelled. It's just not meant to be. Fuck.

Ninja y Yolandi. if you read this I will bring you smoke for your show in exchange for tickets. backstage passes are also appreciated. I will bring macaroni and cheese as well.

Lots of assumptions (and bad grammar) there - I would be surprised if the single off this "album" would be a track featuring another artist - Richard or not.

I would be surprised if it weren't Aphex Twin. Literally every sign points toward it. I don't see much reason why not, and I'm not even really an Aphex fan either, so it's not just blind hopes. And as much as so many people want Aphex Twin to hate Die Antwoord, it's pretty clear that he doesn't since he's already worked with them.

I'm pretty sure that the single will be the Sir. Phex feat. tune. No doubt anyway around. Think about it - singles gona be the launchpad for the rest of the album right so? It'd only make sense to do it this way, ensure the nets been cast on the majority of the people so they can cash in best they can. Wouldn't make sense to do it any other way I mean look we're all ready for this, they're ready for this so why wait more no?

what are you implying here?

I've been digging into the full Watty Jones back catalogue, and the guy is downright inspired. Something like the Constructus Corporation is really creative, and I'm sure a lot of IDM snobs here would actually really like it (shades of Anti-Pop Consortium).

Listening to Max Normal TV, one of the lyrics is "Max Normal TV is Die fookin Antwoord" which predates the emergence of Die Antwoord. Another line “Change my accent, make it more wild, total makeover, change my whole style”. So they laid down bread crumbs for people to follow before launching convincingly into new personas. It's some next level meta shit, man.

It's because he doesn't want to acknowledge that any band/artist he doesn't like actually makes legitimate music. As much as I like Joyrex most of the time, that one thing offends me to no end.

Yeah didn't the exact same thing happen between Venetian Snares and joyrex?

One of their biggest videos was for a song produced by Diplo. I don't think there's any reason to think the first single won't be Aphex.

I think it's kind of ridiculous that anyone would think this is a bad move for afx.

Lately I've been hanging around a lot of 18-22 yr old folks, and Die Antwoord gets played more than anything else, and everyone likes it, which is something that pretty much never happens otherwise. $O$ may have gotten a lot of publicity from Pitchfork, but Ten$ion is a way bigger deal, regardless of how straight-up silly it is. In a post-dubstep america, where almost all youth seems to identify with rave culture, Die Antwoord tying that aesthetic into rap, which already has a massive cultural weight here, and being the weirdest rap group in an era that loves weirdness, makes them a really significant cross-market act. And with 90s IDM aesthetic & tropes getting tied into mainstream & alternative hiphop all over the place, it's the perfect time for Aphex to get involved.

Die Antwoord is a group of intelligent, artistic people, who stopped trying to be obscure and set out to make themselves the voice of american youth, and it's pretty fucking effective. The whole world looks to the American youth market; it's the center of our youth-centric culture, and everywhere else draws massive influence from the US, like it or not.

Why wouldn't Aphex want to share in the publicity?

Yeah, and whether you personally mean it or not, what the fuck is with that attitude around here?

He clearly sunk some time, thought, and effort into working with Die Antwoord, regardless of what ultimately gets published, and his fans think they have the right to tell him what he should be spending his time on? What he should be publishing? What styles he should be working in?

What kind of artist would he be if he took directions?

No artist, of any format, any amount of fame or importance, owes anything to their fans. Art is self expression, if working with Die Antwoord is what suits his fancy, that's his prerogative
