Celebrity Deaths

I'd literally never heard of john prine until yesterday and suddenly everyone on social media is the biggest fan ever and is "shocked" and "dismayed" at his passing and talking about how he was "one of the most creative people... ever" ??? I'm listening now and it's nice but this kind of collective social media obit crap is annoying, esp for millenials who act like they have some deep boomer connection to this stuff. like when etta james died

I actually liked the guy and listened to his stuff because I like that era of country music but yeah...I know what you mean. It's also hard not to roll my eyes when I see music publications write gushing news blurbs and sometimes even follow up features on musicians they barely acknowledged in the past.

Malcolm Dixon passed away at 66. Little person with roles in some major fantastical films. Along with Time Bandits, ROTJ, and Willy Wonka he had roles in Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Crystal.

Oh man oh man oh man.  My friend who lives on the property I'm staying has the two week free Criterion streaming subscription, so hopefully it's on there.

This guy was a New York legend. Pretty much anyone who ever spent any time around the east village / saint marks place will remember seeing jimmy around. Not a household name, but instantly recognizable and unforgettable.

he's got a lot of great roles and diverse, prolific career (for example I had no idea he was a voice on Ratatouille until now) but I'll always think of him first and foremost as the dad in Tommy Boy

"I can get a hell of a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it"

glancing at his filmography and he didn't seem to slow down much at all toward the end, his hard work ethic seem to go hand-in-hand with his acting ability
