Are you down with the underground? Hottest music in the motherfucking planet??? Some of the sickest ravers on the planet Earth?? Are you down with the underground? ARE YOU DOWN WITH THE UNDERGROUND????????? Hottest music in the motherfucking planet!!!!!!!!. Some of the sickest ravers on the planet Earth1/.

i really like ufabulum, but this is just so uninspired and dull. it's dickish to say someone's work is 'phoning it in' and they're just doing it for the paycheck, but this really feels like he just wants to avoid getting a regular job and needs a reason to tour, so he slaps together a realese of whatever tracks he seems fit. plus i wonder why he masters his stuff lik this. it all sounds terrible.

i think rayc fire 2 sounds great especially after a couple of listens. At first it sounds like one melody but once you are familiar with the track the different melodies start to creep out. awesome work by TJ

You didn't like the radio one focus on warp tracks?

what makes you think he's writing melodies for mass appeal and not his own pleasure? the fact that you don't like them isn't a valid answer.

becuause i've listened to his stuff since the beginning and to me it's f'kin obvious.

Perhaps early on, but I would say the later Squarepusher material is geared way more to his own likes and where he wants to explore musically...

im lucky enough to have heard the whole album and its so much better than anything he's released in last years, production wise, composition wise etc BUT its still pretty harsh on the ears and has these annoying epic melodies in all the wrong places, which i personally dont like, it's like he's trying REALLY hard to be succesful, anyway this is a partial return to form imo and has some amazing bits on it, dense.

I think the promo track was the worst one to pick, listening to the rest kind of makes me like it more but its still essentially a throwaway track for me, its like it ticks most of the boxes apart from the most important one, which is the mood, which is garbage imo.

I think basically when Tom makes music HE really truly likes, rather than what he thinks will make his career better or what's good for his image he will be on the right path and we will all get some amazing music.

He doesn't realise that one simple rule and I hope your reading this now Tom, just make music for yourself and when you truly enjoy it, so will most of the rest of us.

Good luck mate.

An interesting critique. The promo track is really, really weak and struck me as an odd choice when compared to the Running Man which he played on the Warp BBC thing, which is way better and, I hope, more representative of the rest of the album.

Dunno what it was about the production, mixing or mastering but I found Ufabulum really tiring on the ears (struggled to listen all the way through). Have a feeling this album will have the same effect on me.

I've heard numerous successful musicians from a range of genres through the years talk about being true to yourself and making music for yourself not anyone else. Best way I reckon. Second-guessing the opinions of fans or critics seems like a totally misguided use of creative energy. (disclaimer: I'm just a bedroom producer and don't share the music I make with anyone so take my opinion with a pinch of salt ha).

Ultimately, I'm looking forward to what Squarepusher's come up with this time round and really excited for his Barbican show next week. Got pretty good seats booked and gonna smoke a massive bifter before I go in

His recent stuff seems very geared to live performance. Dunno. Perhaps I'm evaluating that based on the fact his live shows are such a spectacle but I enjoyed the Ufabulum show way more than the actual album.
