becuause i've listened to his stuff since the beginning and to me it's f'kin obvious.

well so have I, and to me it's obvious that he does whatever the fuck he wants.

I feel disappointed in myself that I absolutely love his output up to (and including) Ultravisitor. But then pretty much detest everything since. The reviews for this are going to have to be decent to get me to give this a whirl, especially with so many big releases coming out in the next few months.

Even more frustrating when you have that Warp20 mega-set of unreleased gems.

That promo track is unbearably bad.

sort of but he's really lost imo, with this new one, it's like he almost found himself but didn't quite manage, still its got some ace moments on it, maybe the next one after this will be the one!

Hope so.

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

I always get the impression sp is a very talented guy who also has (what I would consider to be) quite dodgy taste. After rotted one note, which i loved, I went and tracked down a lot of the stuff he was name checking like jaco and weather report and was quite surprised how naff a lot of it sounded.

I can't complain too much cos his weird taste has led to albums I really enjoy when filtered through his own compositions, but after ultravisitor all of his stuff seems to fail the 'naffness' test for me. I still reckon he'll come up with something else that's more my sort of thing eventually, hopefully once he gets his current love of skrillex style lead synths out of his system.

I got to say it again.. the album teaser track is a total grower and i really love it now... when it comes on my ipod while driving in shuffle mode.... it brings a real smile to my face.....

I've even been listening to ufabulum, shobaleader and JAS a lot recently and love them all... but i have to admit it took a LOT of listens compared to most of his earlier stuff.. now they're like colleagues in work i used to hate but because i had to go away with them on work trips, i get them now and have even made mates with some!

Only in time will it be obvious whether or not chops727 has already heard the album or not, he certainly wasn't keen to hang around and explain how he heard it!

There are 3 explanations:

1. He's got an advance promo copy, and was passing a legitimate critique without saying too much and sticking to all the vague cliches

2. He was drunk and empowered after hearing one track and tried to fill in the blanks in his mind

3. He's riding on the crest of a wave of sheer euphoria and isn't gonna let anything stand in his way from bashing the keyboard.

Yeah, it's probably 2

ok so after bit more digestion, there are 2 amazing tracks from start to finish,

Baltang Ort & Kwang Bass.

These two are top draw squarepusher, so for me just getting one amazing track off an album is good enough so im happy.

The other tracks have amazing bits but if you dont like his last 10 years of output you prob won't like them much either, as they have this epic poppy melody bs which I really don't like BUT saying that they still sound better than those last ones as they have great bits in them and production is more full , still bit harsh though, it's like he's slowly coming back to form (i really hope)

Buf if you like that promo track ( i dont) you are going to be very happy id say.

But Baltang Ort & Kwang Bass are the shit, fast, intricately detailed & dark.

and he persists... for the moment nobody has yet listened to the whole album. you want to influence us, right? for now you are the only one who bullshit your pride but for now, all you tell us use to us: we can not do anything other than read you, we have not listened to this album... What do you want us convraincre? don't buy the last squarepusher? ok bye! ;-)

Jaco, naff?!?! Some of the later weather report isn't great, but their first albums are amazing, and not at all naff.

It's funny to me that people say Tom lost it after Ultravisitor, as I think HE and JAS are his finest albums to date. Each to their own.

Yes. Each to their own.

Teetime was right, the mastering is making a world of difference here (he mentioned the final master compared to the radio one warp focus show).

Even though it's only youtube quality it's miles ahead of the radio one thing. I'm hearing sounds that I didn't hear before, no nasty compression. It's actually really nice.

edit: also I think the breaks are slightly different towards the end but maybe that's my imagination..? Song is infinitely better than that rayc turd too.

Great track, but holy shit, The Cure much?

What? Any specific track they are referring to or is this a new youtube comment meme I'm not aware of?
