I saw her on Friday, probably the best sounding show I've ever heard and for reference I've been to the venue 4-5 times prior and they have great speakers. Impeccable mixing, especially since there were live vocals involved.

Good mix of tunes, played all the best ones off Platform and closed w/ Solo Voice which I hadn't heard before.

They had the phone number up but didn't wind up doing a q&a, I'd guess because not enough questions came in for it to be worthwhile.

Definitely among the best electronic artists working today.

don't like it, it lacks subtlety and it's very shallow, the sonic palette is very limited. sounds a bit like last amon tobin album, those hd sounds and big bass and big beats just keep on pounding and pounding without purpose.

cool somebody said the same thing - in reference to amon tobin

not that I hate this it's just really meh to me and I don't see how it's impressive other than oh dat's neat musics

reminds me of when BT did IDM too

lol, I've warmed up to her stuff a little bit, I still think of it as a novelty though, like I said autechre the radio edit or whatever. I still predict this will be used anachronistically in some movie trailer or rave scene in a movie 10 years from now a la Fluke - Absurd or whatever. Or car commercial

and I'm exaggerating but the music was a letdown after hearing the name for like a month prior to listening

also I don't think it's in the spirit of IDM - as in like autechre gives this feel literally like architecture, this is just really HD but nonetheless skittery sounds that don't capture the same effect to me

anyway her music seems to be either really likeable or dislikeable to people so she's probably doing something right

hmm. im getting the feeling this is coming from the hype and attention.

i dunno.

i have felt compelled in a few instances to jump in this thread and declare not really liking the album all too much, but at the same time it seems pointless to do so when other people are enjoying it.

i really enjoyed the singles and few tracks here and there so happily bought the album, but having listened to the album im not really feeling it from start > finish.

likewise, she's getting a big focus atm from the online music sites and internet hype. so more people than the usual are probably checking it out.

oh shit I forgot bjork

bjork seems a million times more genuine to me/obviously enthusiastic about sound which is what attracts me to weird/different electronic music in the first place. Not so much super HD sounds, more like the musician had an idea in their head and had to hear what it would sound like in real life. I dun get that kind of vibe from holly's music

Gonna see her on the 8th in SF. very excited

the opening act Infrasound is going to be a treat too. They only perform maybe once every few years. Its a conceptual performance where they use the unique characteristics of the space itself to create extremely tactile resonant bass waves

For what it's worth, here's what the 'Chre have to say about ideas: link

(I think the album is great BTW.)

hi ff ~~~ :catbed:

I did listen to it you know, i just took the advice of a poster and stopped polluting your thread with my presence. But i guess noone then saw my version of a meow culpa :catnope: cause it was in the fwp thread, and obviously you guys don't bother reading other people's problems, too busy writing about your own. note to self, must make that a post in the fwp thread.

Everyone disapproves of me cause i don't like holly herndon and haven't even listened to it, so i listened to it, and the in the two videos on the first page it could have done without the vocal component which was terrible. Other than that it's stock standard early 00's electronica, not terrible, not terribly insightful either. Then i listened to the noise stuff which is not 'top notch', it's uninspired rotgut. If you want noise listen to ragnar or something, he knows where it's at.

pretty funny, how ragnar then picked up the torch, my man.

A member of the non sequitairiate.

I enjoyed it, overdue to revisit it though. I didn't throw it on repeat initially.

maybe we can agree that Platform > all PC Music releases thus far?

(or not?)

Is it possible Infrasound brought down WTC 7 with powerful bass waves?

no the debris and fire did, because tall buildings collapse completely all the time from getting hit by debris and fire

I was telling somebody about WTC 7 back in college and they told me: "You know I heard about a skyscraper burning down once so it's not impossible" and I was like: "Yeah that was WTC 7"

I'm sorry for turning this into the dank memes thread

Also PC Music is a really weird comparison to make, not sure how they're related? Might as well say Exai > all PC Music releases thus far, pretty meaningless comparison

Saw her last night. Infrasound was really cool. People were talking throughout their set which actually added to the music because the bass frequencies would cut out the crowd sounds and produce sort of like a fast side chain sound or amplitude modulation. Holly's set was also pretty cool but the crowd felt kind of bored, i expected more dancing and I wanted to move a bit more but it felt weird cuz everyone around me was a statue. There was some Q and A on the projector but not much, only at the beginning and during an interlude. It was kind of funny that she was up there with a mic but didn't say a word to the audience, she's like a cyborg with malfunctioned speech synthesis. The visuals were mainly 2d images rendered in a 3d space, like the Chorus music video.

All in all, great show and I think that wraps up her tour

good for touring

Macbooks are almost unusable for long and continuous work without one (in my experience)
