I just got back from Autechre in Atlanta. Amazing show. Everyone was on point. I met Rob and shook his hand. I ran into Bradford Cox from Deerhunter. He said Gantz Graf was his favorite ae release and cap.iv is his favorite track. Tonight was a good night.

I kind of wanted to stick around and meet Sean and Rob, just to get some info on how they do their Max stuff, but it was way too late for me. I just needed to get the hell back home to my bed. I even forgot to check the merch table on the way out, so someone please let me know if there was anything nice in there.

I should've guessed that Mr. Cox would have the most predictable taste in ae.

Huh? What's wrong with Cap.iv? It's definitely one of their best, top 10 percentile for sure.

Gantz Graf is Autechre's Windowlicker. I'm not into the percussion on that EP, anyway. I prefer the slower and more deconstructed percussion on Confield.

Show was amazing last night (Orlando)! First time seeing Autechre and they absolutely killed it... I had high expectations, of course, and they managed to top them. I've never been able to FEEL their music like that before. Loud, aggressive set. Cygnus was really awesome also... gotta check out his tunes!

So they weren't selling any merch there right? Shame... Wanted to pick up a shirt or something.

They better still have merch, 18 year old me needs an AE shirt so bad.

I was there, didn't see merch table. Sucks.

Incredible show, topped my expectations as well, and I've been replaying the experience all morning. The sound was thick as hell, with (maybe) two gasps for air before plunging right in again. I had sensory overload driving home. Recordings don't do this live tour justice; the intricacies and background melodies weaving with the thundering bass-fuckery are best felt as vibrations in organs and muscles you didn't know you could feel.

Cygnus was fucking great, and I could tell the venue was really digging him. I know he posts here so if you're reading this man, You killed it!

Edit: in case anyone misses it, you can download my recording here

That's odd. At the show I saw, there were actually quite a lot of silent bits every few minutes. The beat would go out, people would cheer, and then it would play and stop for a few seconds before turning into something completely different. It almost felt like a regular concert set. Almost. Also, the DC one did have a merch table, but I completely forgot to see what was there, so we'll never know.

Also the only disappointment was a lack of merch booth, i was ready to drop money on a shirt. Some of ya'll are saying you saw merch booths? Honestly if ya'll see a shirt at one of your shows...i'd honestly pay with interest to have a tour shirt shipped to me. Or at least like a more recently designed shirt, just puttin it out there

I went to both Asheville and Atlanta and I was super pleased to hear some variation in the sets. Fascinating percussion, as always. Asheville show seemed to have more shape to the sounds, esp the bass which was sorta flat I guess at Atl (I'm not musicsmart enough to really articulate what I mean), but it is nice to feel the sounds resonate through my skeleton to remind me of my own mortality. And I felt like that show was a bit more rhythmic which is just how I like my Autechre. There was this vocal bit at Asheville that reminded me of IO, I think they just about always nail vocal parts like that. This was my first live Ae experience, but compared to recordings of past tours, I think this was definitely the most violent and aggressive set. A friend of mine said after Asheville it sounded like a city being destroyed. Yasss. Immediately after the Asheville show ended both of the autechres ducked down behind the table, presumably to chug their post-show Stella Artois.

Then again, I understand now how true it is that recordings are nowhere near what they are like live, considering they put so much thought into adapting the set to the venue itself. But I'm also suspicious that they wrote/designed this set to sound as bland and unimpressive in recordings in contrast to the real deal.

I was the skinny white guy with the Rapoon shirt at Atl trying to dance as accurately as I could to represent the joy (or overwhelming aenduced anxiety) that was in my heart at the time. Apologies also for stepping on anyone's toes. I must have been a nuisance to at least one person.

It was awesome meeting and chatting with Atl Ae fans too; not too many of them I know in my hometown. Watching the autechres sign the 202 was a truly magical moment I won't forget anytime soon.

my rating: 19 out of 20 headaches

I neglected to ask about a meetup... Strangely enough, I saw you guys over there and almost went over, but I didn't want to interrupt your intimate conversation. Didn't know it was you. I did get to shake hands with ae, so that's cool. Didn't even realize Richard Devine was there since I was so starstruck.......
