Muslims aren't into any cool stuff they can bring with them to make us like them.

Except curry.

But they already did that ages ago.

Their music and art is pretty badass...

Anyway, I implore you all to give 13 minutes of your time letting Douglas Murray bend your ear on the matter of cultural relativism and Western masochism. Without hyperbole, I think he's probably the most eloquent and clear-headed speaker on this suite of topics:

(Politics aside, he is worth watching simply for the concision and sheer clarity of his point-making...)

What is culture for you? Where is the defining point? Is it a nation? Is it a china town? Is it your neighbour family? Or is it an individual?

Because I fail to see multiculturalism in cases where the differences between various cultures are not significant (they prefer wine, we prefer beer).

Can you name some of the most prominent cultural differences between the Spanish, the English, the French and the Germans during that times? Do you have an example of a cultural dispute between them?

Interesting debate, thanks.

I think I have a very broad idea about what cultures are. But within this period (beginning of US) it's mostly a region with a specific language, religion(s), governmental structure, shared history/identity, set of technologies specific to the region, shared economy, shared views on art/music. Even if all these different aspects don't always exactly overlap on one another, there's often a territorial divide.

In the case of europe, religion and language seem the most obvious and important examples of cultural differences. Like you say, resources, influence and power also play an important role. And region where a certain kind of power and influence is established often overlap with the mentioned territorial divides. So I don't think the "but that's just influence/power and not culture" argument is a real counter argument. As these things can be very related, imo.

Because culture and for instance ethnicity are hard to define concepts, it's also interesting to consider the genetic side of things. If you look at the different haplogroups for instance, the map of europe looks like this:

Haplogroups_europe.png

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-DNA_haplogroups_in_European_populations

And in terms of languages:

1280px-Simplified_Languages_of_Europe_ma

And without the migration of recent times, the haplogroups and cultures can have strong associations. As can been seen here:

http://www.eupedia.com/europe/european_y-dna_haplogroups.shtml

Look at the bottom of the page where you can find links to each haplogroup. Each haplogroup is associated with an ethnic group.

if he'd talk about how western states do x and y better than islamic states then it would be reasonable, but asserting some vast and universal superiority of western values, whatever the fuck it means, sound pretty damn idiotic. Edited by eugene

I don't have an opinion really other than I read somewhere you can sort of make yourself less racist/xenophobic by you know, reading a Wikipedia article about a person of x ethnic group who did something great, basically having more positive thoughts about them floating around in your head. So here's something I find cool that middle eastern people made

http://50watts.com/Aliyah-in-Wonderland-Arabic-Children-s-Books

also Arabic people made a lot of advances in trigonometry I think?? So they indirectly helped in the invention of DSP and teh IDMs

and curry

Edit: ignore the one with uncle sam and some jewish guy. or don't, just deal wit it

these events are similar to the whole mess of phobias around British Pakistani sex grooming gangs that certain tabloids have reiterated to the point of propaganda in recent years

it stains whole populations through projecting fear onto an entire ethnic group

there are cunts in every society and even though Cologne has a beautiful cathedral and the market stalls are all sweet & picturesque, "street crime" has always been a problem around the station

(so many rrrrrrockin Krautrock bands have risen out of the city, thats the 1 specific reason i even visited)

western men do the exact same stuff to women (grope drug rape pillage) but the difference is they believe in delayed gratification.

here, if a girl gets abused/raped by an athlete(s), well you know what happens.

other cultures (india, "northern africa", middle east) just go right for what (they think) they want.

but all anyone truly wants is love. we are just confused at how to foster it and what that looks like.

also, some places are just horrible places for women, and these are the places these attackers are coming from, unfort, but tru

yeah, about that...

At least when all those nice rastas came over in the 50s and 60s they brought their soundsystems and recreational drugs and interesting food for sainsburys to sell in the world foods aisle.

non-trolling conclusions

to be clear i meant the RDJ that comes across through his music, not interview RDJ. The one who seems very open to different music around the world (like some review said CCAI EP is basically like pop gamelan music) as opposed to being stockhausen concerned with post-african repetitions

cringes at thought of alternate universe where RDJ is obsessed with making purely cornish/the essence of cornish music/cornwall being pinnacle of civilization

which is worse, justified outrage which spills out and attacks innocents, or fear of causing offence which leads to cover ups and failure to investigate crimes which leads to the rape of children?

I wonder how Douglas Murray feels about Kim Davis?
