user
The title of the “weirdly specific diy books” thread has bothered me from day one. Vague and broad diy books would be a lot weirder and more useless. A more accurate title would have been “obscure diy books” or “weird diy books”. Just waiting for someone to respond with a “lol that’s so random” to make the cycle complete. Perhaps the greater problem is that they are just too honest for this sick world. Bots just wanna listen to their tunes and be real. Why can't the humans just accept that? totally agree that bots just wanna have fun. if only they could figure out what a bicycle looks like. or a streetlamp or a bridge, then they could be free like the rest of us. Zephyr_Nova
4 of the 5 likes on my last IG post are from tinder/bumble matches. Apparently those are the best sites for building a fanbase. IDM hobbyists take note. You won't find your audience on soundcloud or myspace or whatever the fuck you've been lead to believe. Dating apps is where your fanbase waits. Cryptowen
So there's that popular band trope where they'll end a song by having every instrument hit a big power harmonic that lingers & slowly fades (presumably into the cheering of the crowd). And usually the drummer will do that thing where they're just hitting really light, fast textural tones on the cymbals to go along with it. Is that just there so the drummer has something to do? Don't get me wrong, it usually isn't annoying (except for when I'm trying to sample the reverb tails of songs), but it also just kinda feels like it's there for the sake of it being there. I think I like it better when the drummer plays that outro bit like the main rhythm of the song is slowly unspooling; like there might be a couple of stray kicks & recognizable elements from the rhythm proper, but in a way that makes obvious that the groove has been irrevocably broken. This is a huge problem among roughly half of all drummers I have recorded. Just let the fucking cymbal ring out. No one cares about your post-song tinkles. Usually I have foresight enough to get them to replay the last 4 bars with a single crash ringing out on the last beat. But I've needed to do at least a few sneaky edits in my time. I have noticed this phenomenon any time I've gone out dancing & really gotten into it: at a certain point (even totally sober) it actually becomes difficult to stop moving in time to the rhythm. It's like a sort of kinetic flow builds up - I'll leave the dance floor, and notice that my fingers are still moving or my foot is still shuffling as I'm talking to people, almost of their own accord. I imagine it might be the same way with drumming - you become so engaged with the rhythm, that it takes actual conscious effort to break out of it literally chained 2 dah rhythm Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Cryptowen's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/94337-your-pointless-thoughts-observations/page/184/#findComment-2869022 Share on other sites
