This time we knew exactly what we were voting for and we still totally fucked it up

I think I said maybe 4 years ago ITT that Trump is basically an American version of Italy's Berlusconi who kept getting re-elected even when people already knew what kind of an asshole he is. He ticks a lot of the same boxes also: media personality, corrupt, opportunistic, racist, misogynist, womanizer, horrible taste, etc.

If I had to really dig out some real fascist dictator to compare Trump to I would say he's closer to Mussolini than say Hitler. Hitler was a zealous ideological basket case, but Mussolini was an opportunist that easily jumped ship from socialism to fascism when it suited him better.

yeah, for sure.

also, though, the era of disinformation, in which we are living, is of significant consequence. and the problem remains, and the solution has not yet arrived. i continue to maintain that the solution cannot be outsourced by the individual - it must be distributed. we will be forced, eventually, to evolve norms of teaching each-other adequate information-handling skills.

Remember what I said about BLM and the riots not exactly helping the Dems? I  didn’t just pull that out of my ass.

This seems to be a trend in worldwide politics these days.
People vote, but somehow, wrong people come to power. Like in our country. Suddenly the elected government did not have enough support from the coalition of parties, and the prime minister resigned, giving the seat to a Trump/Orban/Erdogan sympatizer, radical right-wing nut-head, populist agitator, a buthurt neo-liberal. Democracy my ass. Someone needs to flush this scum out of the white halls and put them to work in mines and digging gutters for the rest of their lives.

No. It doesn't work like that, sorry. Take a look around if you live in the US and realize that it truly is not that black and white. It's way more complex than Orange Man Bad.

this is so fucking depressing. yeah it's not technically over yet, but donald's winning any way you look at it. so many people are stuck in the mentality of "well yeah he's crazy, but I ain't no liberal pussy ass democrat. I'm a republican and so is he, so I'm voting for him."

not really. biden looks likely to get WI, MI, AZ, and NV, which puts him at 270. nail-biter, though.

Not feeling too good about the potential outcomes.  Betting on getting all those four states through recounts and challenges is a tough get.

Biden win looking increasingly likely. 271 minimum, doesn't need PA or GA.

Ironically the only thing that can save Trump now is counting all the mail in ballots and him doing implausibly well there.

He's only ahead by 8K votes in nevada so far though

and around 20k in each Michigan and Wisconsin. It's really way too close for comfort right now.

The really ironic thing here is:Trump won Florida cause of immigrants (managing to convince the Cubans that Biden was a socialist like Castro), and then his only chance of winning is the mail-in ballot, which he and his team of fuckwits have spent the last 4 months shitting on.
